"Mark Higgins did a super job landscaping the front of our house and front yard bed. The front of our house now has "curb appeal" thanks to his recommendations. He and his crew did a great job clearing out the old plants and installing the new ones. Would definitely hire again."

"Aldo's has trimmed our trees, leveled our backyard, previously. This time (yesterday) Aldo's scrubbed and pressure washed our extra large parking area, continuing on with the porches and paver paths on the sides of the house. We had developed so much mold it just had to be done. Then, they scrubbed and pressure washed our large deck. The mold had made the wood very slippery when wet. The Aldo's crew also replaced all the deck furniture. Their clean-up after the job always leaves it looking great. These hard working gentlemen have always done a beautiful job for us. Their bid on the job been affordable and they stand by that bid. They are so good that we also enjoy tipping each worker separately at the end. Big "Thank You" to Aldo's. They are our go-to guys. "Dakota and his team did an excellent job with our landscape project. Rather than sell me on his ideas, he listened carefully to my design goals and created a layout with plants that aligned with my desired color scheme and soil type. The crew was very professional - extremely hard working and courteous. Definitely recommend Southern Brothers and will rehire for future projects!"

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

The best time to plant a tree is in the spring, so the roots have time to grow into the surrounding soil before winter sets in. Some people recommend planting in the late fall. However, planting in the spring reduces the stress on the tree, as it will be emerging from dormancy, giving it the full spring and summer ahead to acclimate and put down roots into the soil.

Common features in lakefront landscaping projects include native and water-tolerant plants, stone paths, docks or piers, seating areas, and erosion control solutions to create a harmonious integration with the waterfront setting.

You should plant trees at least 15 to 20 feet away from your house, and more if the tree will grow large and spread its limbs. Trees pose several dangers to houses when planted too close. They can litter the roof with leaves and branches, create fire hazards, make a ladder for larger pests, and even damage the foundation as their roots grow.

You can fill the holes weeds leave behind with soil or sand to avoid unsightly spots or tripping hazards. If you remove weeds from a grassy area, fill the hole with soil and grass seed, and water regularly to promote grass growth.

In most cases, wait three to five days to repot or relocate a plant from a greenhouse or nursery. That way, your plant has time to recover from any shock during the move and adapt to the conditions in and around your home. Some hearty plants may not need as long, and delicate plants might need several weeks. You should ask the professional at your nursery for a recommended timeline. Consider asking about an initial watering schedule to help stimulate root growth and promote a healthy plant.
