"I recommend Top Notch Remodelers for the wonderful job they did on our tub to shower conversion. We appreciate Sam's (installer) thoughtfulness and attention to detail during both long days of work. The company's customer service was detailed and very professional. Jason the owner called us before and after the installation to make sure all was to our expectations. Thank you, Top Notch Remodelers. June D."

"Sean and his crew were professional, always on time and answered any questions I had. They worked efficiently on both my bathrooms, taking care to check for and fix the leaks. They regrouted both shower and tub areas, replaced the toilet and put in new flooring. Both rooms look terrific and I thank them profusely for the finished products. I highly recommend them and have other jobs for them to complete in the future."

"Our bath remodel is now complete. What a FANTASTIC job!!! It was quite a process, but Scott did a great job in the coordination of all the contractors and workers and always kept things moving along smoothly. Any little hiccups along the way were handled immediately and perfectly. Every step of the way, Scott was sure everything was perfect and to our complete satisfaction. This remodel came out better than we ever imagined. Thanks to everyone at Gilbert Design that helped put it all together for us."

"The work done wasn’t what is shown above, but that was the closest option. The plumbing was checked throughout the house. He inspected all sink and tub/shower drains and valves, the sump pump, hot water heater, and main water shutoff. He explained any possible problems that could be changed. He was pleasant and helpful. I would recommend him and request him for future issues."

Tub Shower Conversion questions, answered by experts

You need mortar or a premanufactured pre-slope product under a shower pan liner. Some shower pans are pre-sloped, but they still need a base underneath them to support the pan’s structure and the weight of the person using the shower. Installing a shower without a pre-slope creates a high risk of pooling water, leaks, and the breakdown of the shower’s support structure.

Depending on the layout of your bathroom, you may be able to replace a shower valve without removing the tile. The existing hole needs to be large enough to remove your old valve and fit your new valve. If the hole is too small, you’ll need to cut into the wall and remove some of the tile.

Yes, you can replace just the shower pan and leave the shower base as-is. However, you may need to replace both if the pan is leaking and causing damage to the base, like cracks. In this case, getting a new pan won’t fix your problems because you’ll eventually notice water damage in your home.

Use mortar underneath the shower base. The mortar holds the shower pan in place and creates a level surface when spread properly. If your flooring is not level, you would need to use shims to create a level surface before moving forward with the mortar and base installation.

Note that installing a shower pan on an uneven surface can eventually lead to cracks and leaks.

If there are no issues with the plumbing in your house or with the city’s water lines, then it may be possible for you to increase water pressure in your shower by cleaning or replacing your showerhead. For the latter, you should look for high-pressure showerheads with a flow rate as close to the maximum available, which is 2.5 gallons per minute (GPM).
