"I purchased the GreenStar panels for my new garage. The entire experience was very professional. From Kenny the salesman to Paul the owner, and most importantly the team of installers. I would welcome them back to work on another project I have planned in the future. I did a lot of research on spray foam insulation prior to purchasing the panels. What help me make the decision was the fact that my neighbor had their attic spray foamed 6 years ago and they have to clean their soffits every six months because of the mold. If there's mold coming out of the soffits, you know there is mold in there attic."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Not necessarily. A higher R-value simply means that the insulation has a higher heat resistance and performs better in terms of how much heat passes through the material. This can be better for some homes, or it can be too high of an R-value for other homes. Again, your climate zone determines whether the insulation is better for your home.

Bubble wrap is better for moving since it can be cut to size, whereas dish foam comes in precut sheets that are harder to manipulate. However, if you’re packing items like dishes, wine glasses, picture frames, or mirrors, dish foam will protect them better. Ensure you measure your box beforehand so you know what size dish foam to purchase.

It is normal for the attic to be hotter than the rest of the house in the summer, but only by about 10 or 20 degrees. Attics that aren’t properly insulated or ventilated can reach temperatures of 130 degrees or more which can cause damage to the home’s structure, including the roof, wood framing, and HVAC system.

Exposed ductwork can sweat just like ductwork placed behind walls, sometimes even more so. Ductwork sweats—like a cold drink on a hot day—because of a temperature imbalance between the air in the duct and the air in the room. In a crawl space or wall, this temperature can equalize faster due to the small space but in lofts and open rooms, that wouldn’t happen as quickly. Many people insulate their ducts for this reason.

You do not need to drywall over most types of garage insulation. However, doing so can increase noise reduction, make the space more attractive, and keep children and pets from touching harmful fiberglass insulation. If you’re using cellulose or some other type of blown-in insulation (fiberglass and mineral wool are common), you will need drywall to contain the insulation material.
