"Jesus did a fantastic job! He replaced damaged wood framing for me around a basement window, reinstalled the window and did a beautiful job of trimming the window with PVC. Will definitely use his services again!"

His attention to the finer points of the project was evident at every stage. Whether it was in the planning phase, execution of tasks, or the final touches, Robert consistently displayed a keen eye for detail. This level of precision undoubtedly contributes to the overall quality of his work. Communication is a key element in any successful collaboration, and Robert excels in this regard. "We have had an extremely excellent experience with Paradise! We had a complete redo of a bedroom which began with gutting the room of old celing, paneled walls and old flooring, with a complete remodel of the celing and bedroom including framing new walls; installation of insulation, drywall hung and walls painted. The bedroom was completely finished with trim and crown molding along with trim around the bedroom windows, a new bedroom door and closet door were placed with new knobs and hardware. A new celing light was installed along with smaller details like new covers for the electric outlets and light switches. Other jobs have included a revamp of an outdoor area by placing stones throughout the entire area with river rocks and pea pebbles to clean up a unusable dirty sandy area in the back and side yard and laying down a stepping stone pathway from one side to the other. We also had a very small carport made over a concrete parking area on our driveway."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

There are a few easy ways to locate a wall stud without a stud finder. First, try knocking on the wall with your knuckles. Most parts of the wall will sound hollow, but when you tap over a stud, it will sound more solid. Alternatively, since studs are spaced 16 or 24 inches apart, you can measure those distances from a corner of the room, which will always have a stud.

House framing can be expensive because the materials are pricey, and the job requires a high level of expertise. The more complex the plans, the more expensive the job, but even the most basic frame needs to be installed with high-quality materials and precision. When pricing your home’s framework, remember that a sturdy frame is necessary to create a safe structure.

Joists do distribute their load to beams, but they don’t sit on top of the beams. Instead, home builders nail or screw the joists directly to the beams such that the end of the joist butts up against the edge of the beam. Beams can sit on other beams for support, but you’ll never see a joist sitting on top of a beam or another joist.

There are both temporary and permanent ways to enclose a carport. If you’re looking to enclose your carport for the winter, a canvas enclosure could do the trick. It won’t be as protective as a permanent structure, but it can offer some protection from elements like snow, rain, and wind. For a permanent enclosure, you can add extra walls, add a new vertical roof, or a lean-to addition on one side of the structure.

Removing a load-bearing wall is best handled by professionals. However, if you have the skill set and decide to DIY the project, you will still need at least one additional person to assist you. Aside from helping with demolition, you'll need another hand to install the new support beam.
