"Amazing work! Will has the expertise, tools and professional eye for detail to do any project. He has helped our company multiple times with everything from basic shelving to complete interior finishing remodeling work- floors to ceiling. I call him to handle any of our improvements. He is completely trustworthy, always cleans up after his work and returns unused supplies. He is also creative, coming up with solutions and building something unique for a project just by my description of my goals. If you’re looking for the ONE call for any expert work it’s Wallace Home Services."

"Alex responded quickly. Alex is very knowledgeable, efficient and a perfectionist. Not only did he fix the garage door openers, he also taught us how to use the automatic garage door openers we had in our cars and he also put new garage door framing for the two garage doors. Alex is super. We will hire him for any handy work we may have."

"My house entry door had long-standing wood rot in several places. I decided I'd better get a professional to fix that. I called Scott Purvis based on his homeadvisor.com ratings. Scott came over right away, looked at the door and made some suggestions as to how he would fix the door. I liked the plan, and hired him. Scott's work was excellent, he kept me advised all along the way and I am very pleased with the door as it is now."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.

When building a house, it is customary to use 16d nails that measure 3 1/2 inches in length to construct the frame. These nails are crucial in providing the necessary support and stability for structural elements like joists and studs, which ensures a sturdy framework.

Framing with metal studs can be significantly faster than using wooden studs, provided you have some experience working with the material. While you can use virtually instant pneumatic nailers with wood, metal requires installing screws. However, because metal is lighter, straighter, usually comes cut-to-length, and doesn't require sorting for the best pieces, you can save significant time using metal instead of wood.

Learning how to frame a house includes picking the right lumber for the job. Most people will want to pick pine, spruce, or fir for the framing. These types of lumber are affordable and produce sturdy framing for structures. Look for kiln-dried lumber to reduce the risk of shrinkage or insect damage after installation. As part of what’s included in framing a house when you hire a professional, the contractor should order the lumber, so you don’t have to worry about finding the right lumber.

Yes, professional installations include reinforced corner posts to ensure durability.
