Small jobs welcome

"Louis did my driveway in 2020, and this year I had him extend a large slab and walkway off the existing driveway. I've always been happy with his work, he does quality work and met all my expectations. The extension is nicely graded for runoff, and looks great."

"Sgt. Stripes Asphalt did a fantastic job. I am in Kentucky and the job was in Georgia. They were very efficient, communicated with me. They did the job on the weekend so there would not be any traffic in and out of Post-Office parking lot. Their customer service and work great. I would definitely recommend them."

Customers say: True professional

"Bryers Asphalt Paving responded immediately to my request for a quote! The owner met with me within 4 hours, and after inspecting my asphalt driveway, explained how the cracks and surface would be repaired and sealed. I agreed with the very reasonable cost and booked an appointment for the next day. Two Bryers employees came at the agreed-on time and completed a first-class job in less than three hours. Cracks were repaired with 400 degrees hot rubberized oil and the entire driveway was sealed with professional oil-based sealer. The results are an excellent job which will last for years. Thank You Bryers Sealing !"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Asphalt paving offers several benefits, including cost-effectiveness and a quick installation process. It provides a durable and smooth surface, making it ideal for high-traffic areas. With proper maintenance, asphalt also offers longevity.

Driveway paving costs around $4,500 on average, but depending on many factors, you could pay anywhere from $2,500 to $6,600 or more. The size of your driveway will usually be the most significant factor, with more square footage increasing your costs. You can expect to pay between $2 and $15 per square foot for paving services. Some other factors that play a role include the following:

  • Quality of the materials

  • Contractor’s experience and expertise

  • Site preparation and grading, if necessary

  • Layout of your driveway

Recycled asphalt is not better than gravel, but can be a good alternative. It is inexpensive, but not as low-cost as gravel, and doesn’t tend to last as long. Recycled asphalt isn’t as dusty as gravel and is more environmentally friendly. The black look can be something that homeowners prefer. No matter what, ensure you choose an experienced recycled asphalt contractor.

It takes recycled asphalt 48 hours to initially harden and up to 3 months to fully cure. It’s best to stay off of recycled asphalt for at least 48 hours, then you can walk or drive standard vehicles on it. Hold off on driving heavy trucks or equipment on it for at least 7 days. Allowing the surface to melt together and harden ensures that the surface stays durable and long-lasting.

New asphalt typically needs 24 to 72 hours to dry before it can handle light foot traffic and careful driving. Although it may appear solid after a few days, the full curing process, where the asphalt reaches its peak strength, takes much longer—generally from 30 days to a year.

During this extended curing time, the surface remains relatively soft and can be damaged by heavy vehicles, sharp objects, or high temperatures. To protect your investment, it's best to avoid parking heavy machinery on the asphalt until it has fully cured.

The exact time required for drying and curing depends on several factors, including the weather, the specific asphalt mix, and its thickness. For the most accurate advice tailored to your situation, consult with your asphalt contractor.
