They also even began the job a day earlier than the salesman had hinted might be the start date, in this crazy time of supply and labor shortages. Exceeded my expectations! Start to finish over 30 days, crew was sub-standard, left yard in a mess with nails and debris all over the place (still finding nails), they damages gutters and covered up Metal Flashing with a 2/4 boards. Shingled over rotten plywood instead of replacing it (yes, they were called back to redo). Terrible Craftsmanship!"

A metal roof will not make your house hot. In fact, metal roofs reflect heat, keeping your home cooler when the temperature outside rises. In addition to its reflectivity, metal also has a high thermal conductivity, so it gains and loses heat quickly. The sun may cause the metal to heat up, but the roof quickly transfers that heat back into the air around it rather than retaining it and transferring it into your home.

You can replace a roof in the winter, though it’s not the most popular time to do so. The biggest drawback of winter roofing work is the weather. Snow and ice make for dangerous, slippery working conditions. Plus, shingles can only be installed in temperatures above 40 to 45 degrees. 

The best time to replace a roof is in the spring or fall when the weather is mild. However, you can likely save some money by booking the job in the winter off-season, when roofers have more availability. 

Roof raking can damage shingles if improperly done. Be sure to use a rake that’s designed specifically for removing snow from a roof, and don’t use excessive pressure. Light, consistent pressure to pull down the bulk of the snow is all that’s needed—if you clear right down to the shingles, you’re probably using too much force and risking roof damage.

To cap off a chimney flue, start by measuring its width, length, and diameter, if it’s circular. Purchase a cap that fits the flue, and decide whether you want a temporary or permanent model. Then, slide or insert the cap onto the flue and secure it with a screwdriver. Be sure to avoid over-tightening the screws to prevent chimney damage. 

In general, hailstones need to be at least one inch in diameter to cause damage to a roof. Smaller hailstones can also cause damage, but usually only if accompanied by strong winds or striking aging roofs in poor condition. Obviously, the larger the hail, the more potential for damage.
