"Overall great experience. We noticed their lower cost monitoring systems are vulnerable to smash and grab robberies but the middle and upper range packages are protected from this. We also have had a few bugs with the broken glass detector but overall the sytem appears to be a great value.

"Hunter was very knowledgeable, courteous, and most of all professional. He worked with me to get my appointment scheduled although his schedule was booked. He continued to communicate with me about the possible issues/causes of my chimney problem so that he would be prepared with the right equipment and parts on arrival. He arrived when he said he would and completed the job to my satisfaction. He went above and beyond what I expected. I would definitely use him again for any chimney issues I have. I will also recommend him to my neighbors who may also have issues with their chimneys. I was impressed with his workmanship."

Chimney Inspection questions, answered by experts

Meshed fiberglass tape is your best option if you want to tape up a leaking ceiling. Even then, that is not a permanent solution and you need to address the root cause of the leak. Also, you still need to apply drywall material on top of the tape and repaint the ceiling, instead of leaving the tape exposed as-is. Finally, this method only works on minor leaks and as a band-aid solution.

You can secure roof decorations like inflatables and other Christmas decor by tying a rope or attacking bungee cords to your roof clips. Depending on the pitch of your roof, you can use sandbags for extra support. Like with Christmas lights, avoid using staples or duct tape.

A roof's lifespan can range from 15 to 200 years, with an average of 25 to 50 years, depending heavily on the material, quality of installation, maintenance, and local climate. Asphalt shingle roofs are common and typically last 15 to 30 years; three-tab shingles have a lifespan of about 20 years, while architectural shingles can last up to 30. More durable materials have longer lifespans: metal roofs last 30 to 100 years, clay and concrete can last 50 to 100 years, and slate roofs can last up to 200 years with proper care. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning gutters and replacing damaged shingles, is crucial for extending the life of any roof.

This depends on the design of your roof and any preexisting issues. If you have water and puddles pooling, no matter the roof type, apply a coat of sealant immediately. Beyond that, seal a flat roof every five years, though constant rain and snow hasten this time frame to three or four years. Add a few years for sloped roofs, waiting six to eight years between applications, as water does not pool with these designs.

There are a few things you should look out for that suggest your chimney needs repair. The most obvious of which is leaking around the bricks or stone, which should be addressed by a professional immediately. If you’re unsure of its repair status, consider conducting a chimney inspection. Some other repair signs include:

  • Smoky smell in your home when you’re using your chimney

  • Visible damage to the bricks or mortar between them

  • Chimney is pulling away from your home

  • Portions of the brick are flaking away or crumbling

  • Visible cracks that travel through the mortar in a stair-step formation
