"Moving Ahead Services is excellent! At every stage of planning my move, their staff was accessible by phone, and they provided emailed confirmation messages that reassured me that all details were correctly specified. I was also in contact with a specific staff member who handled my account, so that I had a consistent contact person available who was familiar with the details of my move. They allowed me to schedule at no charge a pre-move assessment visit of my home, so that we could strategize ahead of the move date. On the day of the move, they called ahead to let me know that they were en route; arrived on time; and were very efficient in their work. I was pleased that they were respectful of my home during the move. Overall, this move was a very positive experience, and I highly recommend Moving Ahead Services."

"I feel extremely fortunate to have found Vicki through Angie's List !  She is an extremely talented person who is very easy to deal with. She has a breath of knowledge that allows her to accommodate my tastes, but also ensure that the overall design is in sync with the design and location of my home.  She has  a very diplomatic way of suggesting when I'm going astray with my choices and in every case where she has told me "Trust Me"  I have been delighted ! She is very aggressive in helping me find the best pricing and often times will work with the vendors directly  hence saving me the time.  She also has excellent local contacts.  Everyone I've worked with through Vicki has been timely, professional, and highly competent.
My project is far from complete.  I intend to continue to use Vicki and her expert advice until the end !!!!"

"It was a mixed experience.  The guy's name was John.  He was very nice.  When we had him, he was just starting up as I recall.  Some of the chemicals that they used including Clorox ruined a beautiful cloth of mine.  They didn't know what they were doing.  They cleaned the fan over my bed and it had Clorox in it.  It was a foolish mistake, but it was costly for me.  I didn't cancel anything and did have him come again.  I am uncomfortable with having 4-5 people in my house, running around and cleaning things around.  It is really uncomfortable feeling for me after all the years, I had wonderful cleaning people.  I had one person who would clean for 4 to 5 hours.  It was beautiful, but was just uncomfortable.  I think he has really good intentions.  I think if he has the same crew every time, it will be much better.  It wasn't that way all the time as they were different people different times.  He is a really nice guy.  The people that came out were good too.  They were always not aware of what they were doing.  I have got oriental rugs and they have used vacuum cleaners.  The fringe is getting torn at the edges.  I am fussy.  Let them have money for good things and I don't want them to ruin it.  The place on top of fireplace has got some stains on it and I don't know what kind of chemicals they are using.  They got to be really careful.  The quilt that I have on my bed is worth thousand dollars and how will I replace it.  The house looks beautiful when they left.  Their price is average.  He is very good with his responsiveness.  He is very professional.  He really tried with his staff and he did have a couple of them who were really good.  I want only one person in my home and not 4."

"Once I sent her all the measurements, it took her a little while to get the options back to me.  Overall, they're good designs.  However, they're very simplistic and give general ideas for space planning.  I was hoping to have a better idea for sizes of furniture for the space and some variations on staging.
Jill was very responsive when I did have a question.  I'm not sure how helpful it is to have a virtual design done.  If we lived in similar cities, I'd probably use her again for help with additional designs.

Home Staging questions, answered by experts

In most cases, staging a home is expensive but worth every penny. According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR), 81% of agents representing buyers stated that staging made a positive impact on the buyer’s perception of the house and made it easier to visualize it as a home. The value of your home—which is to say the amount buyers are willing to spend—is based on perception alone and not the inherent value of the land or structure. Therefore, improving the appeal of your home through staging is likely to make your home more enticing during a home sale.

The impact of a walk-in tub on home value depends on various factors, including market demand, demographic preferences, and overall home features. While some buyers may view it as a desirable accessibility feature, others might see it as a niche amenity, potentially limiting the pool of interested buyers. However, it could add value if the walk-in tub meets specific needs or enhances the property's appeal to a target demographic. Ultimately, its effect on home value varies case by case, with factors like installation quality, design, and neighborhood trends playing roles in determining its impact.

Costs depend on home size, number of rooms staged, duration of staging, and furniture rental needs.

Yes, removing a fireplace can decrease your home's value, as it is a sought-after feature for many buyers. The potential loss in value is estimated to be between $1,000 and $5,000. The impact can vary by market and climate; for example, a fireplace is more valued in colder regions like Minnesota than in warmer areas like Florida.

However, if a fireplace is in poor condition and needs extensive repairs, removing it might be a reasonable option. When deciding, weigh the benefits of removal (more floor space, less maintenance, reduced energy loss) against the potential decrease in home value. If you plan to sell soon, it is generally advised not to remove it.

The average cost to stage a home is around $1,800, with most sellers paying between $800 and $2,800 for professional services. However, the total cost can vary significantly, ranging from $500-$600 for an initial consultation to $5,000 or more for comprehensive, full-home staging.

The final price depends on several factors, including the home's size, location, and condition, as well as the number of rooms being staged. Other key cost drivers include whether you need to rent furniture, the quality of the decor, the stager's experience, and the duration of the staging services. The scope of the project also plays a role, from virtual staging and simple decluttering to full-service design, which may involve repairs and maintenance.
