"This is about the 4th time we've used Carl to work in our home. He can do anything. He built an outside deck, removed all the wood from our kitchen & rebuilt electrical fixtures including installing ceiling lights. He picked up all the necessary materials was prompt, courteous, honest , professional & a pleasure to work with. Everything he did was excellent. We will always use Carl when we need work a in our home.

Travis arrived at 10 AM, was finished by 5 PM, worked alone, very efficient, professional and very agreeable. He had twenty minutes of help from Allen (Tech) and then did the total installation by himself.  I watched and learned a few things.  Whoever works in my home always has my attention.  I made sure he was safe while on ladder or while cutting stuff.  He was very competent.

I had a significant upset with the invoice that indicated  (in hand printing) "nonrefundable deposit", but I was not aware of it when I signed the invoice.  I wanted to cancel the job 12 hours after I signed the invoice and had already issued a big check to Amtek..  I was so upset.  I suggested a SOP modification;  to have the customer initial that hideous phrase "nonrefundable deposit".  You don't have big service done to your automobile without initialing approval at dealerships.  I have learned a hard lesson.  I trusted the Tech, Allen who had come to my home before. He is a very intelligent Tech, polite and very helpful.  I believe he is very trustworthy.  It is the business end that needs attention.

I have never done a big job at my homes with only one business estimate.  I allowed Amtek to do my job because I trusted Allen a lot, but I was not cognitively aware of that hideous phrase.  Customers need to be aware.  If I ever see that phrase again by ANY COMPANY, I will not do business with them unless I have already gotten two other estimate proposals.

So, in summary: I believe the cost was too high.  Perhaps I am wrong.  I would have the evidence of my suspicion if I had gotten a couple other estimates for this A/C replacement.  Guess I put the cart before the horse---DUMB

I emailed Amtek thru Angie's List and through their company web site. I believe the President was aware of my concerns.  It was very kind of Allen to re-explain the upsetting invoice. His boss allowed Allen to reduce the bill by $500 and to extend my maintenance agreement.  That particular effort reduced the stress I was dealing with. On Friday, I signed that invoice.  Monday (48 hours after that invoice)  was the install, I was sort of stuck, didn't want to lose my "nonrefundable deposit".  Travis has renewed my faith in my decision making...............what a lesson I have learned.  I appreciate all the info from Angie's List.  I was not a stupid consumer;  a little foolish through.  Well, you learn something every day.....however, .........doesn't always have to be hard way.

I write truthfully and do no wish to offend anyone.  I really believe with all my current stress factors (sister with metastatic cancer, being a new resident of Florida now for only 1 1/2 years, remodeling this home so my sister will NEVER be in a Nursing Home doing all the Maintenance here by myself, losing my beloved husband in 2012, losing my cocker spaniel in 2014....I am pretty beat up.  I do not need any more stress; actually, nobody does. Right?

Thank you Angie's List for all your assistance on all my home projects over the years.  Thank you.

"I've had them for probably a year. I had to have them come out once and they were very good. They were excellent. They did what they said. One of the things they fixed didn't work so well and they came back immediately. It was on a garbage disposal, but they were excellent. I haven't run into any problems. The quality of work is excellent. Nice people come out. It was fine. Everything worked out really well with them. I wish it was cheaper, but what am I going to do? It's within my reach. I'm retired and I don't have a budget. It's still reachable. It's understandable, even though you don't want that."

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

While the drain connection for a garbage disposal is nearly universal and fits standard sink drain holes of 3 1/2 to 4 inches, the size of the disposal unit itself is not. You must have enough space in the cabinet underneath your sink to accommodate the disposal's housing. A larger model may not fit in a compact cabinet or if the existing plumbing is arranged in an unusual way. Before buying a new garbage disposal, measure the available space under your sink. If you are replacing an old unit, it's often easiest to choose a new model of a similar size.

These appliances do unscrew, but you need to disconnect everything properly when you replace your garbage disposal. Make sure you shut the power off to the area first and check that it’s off with a voltage detector. Disconnect the main drain line and P-trap, and then disconnect the dishwasher drain line if you have one connected. You can then unscrew your garbage disposal using a disposal wrench. Just make sure you disconnect the electrical lines before removing your appliance.

Soil is just one of the items you shouldn't put down a garbage disposal. Garbage disposals are only meant for soft, non-fibrous foods. Large amounts of topsoil, dirt, or rocks will damage the blades of your garbage disposal or clog the pipes. If a small amount of dirt goes down the drain as you repot a plant, you shouldn't have to worry, but never dump a whole pot of soil in the sink for fast disposal.

In some cases, it’s more cost-effective in the long run to replace a garbage disposal, but it depends on the specific issue you’re having and the age of your disposal. You should ask a garbage disposal repair tech for a quote to repair your appliance and then see if it would be more worthwhile to replace it. Additionally, garbage disposals last for around 15 years, so if you know your appliance is reaching that age, it’s likely better to pay for a new garbage disposal rather than sink money into repairs.

Garbage disposals are durable appliances that usually last at least eight years as long as you clean and maintain them. It’s relatively rare for a garbage disposal to break on its own, as most malfunctions happen due to user errors, like overstuffing the grinding compartment or damaging the blades by trying to dispose of metal or bone. Eventually, cracks or leaks could develop in the unit, which requires a full replacement.
