"Attic Fanatics did an outstanding job from start to finish! The team was professional, punctual, and explained every step of the process clearly. They removed the old insulation, sanitized, sealed air leaks, and then installed new insulation — everything was done with attention to detail and care for our home. What impressed me most was how clean they left the job site and how much cooler and more comfortable our home feels now. They even shared before-and-after photos so we could see the difference in our attic. It’s rare to find a contractor that goes above and beyond like this. I would highly recommend Attic Fanatics to anyone looking for attic insulation or ductwork — you won’t be disappointed!"

"My wife checked out this company out before we called them. We needed to have new insulation installed due to a recent repair to an air duct our home. I called a few places for a quote and this company offered the better price with a guarantee. They did what they said and we are happy with the results. Recommended."

"After deciding that it was high time for us to replace our insulation, I contacted these guys. From the initial meeting, I immediately knew that I found the perfect team to deliver the service I was looking for. They immediately understood what we want and procured a convenient schedule. They completed the new insulation in one day without causing any problems to us or to our home. The result was an exceptional insulation that helped improve the air flow, quality and temperature inside the house."

"We found Star Construction through Angie's List. The project was a joy for us from start to finish. Leonard Feldman, of Star Construction, responded immediately to look at our house (he made a personal trip and spent quite some time with us) to enlarge our living area. Mr. Feldman is an unbelievably knowledgeable person who sat down with us, actually sketched out a plan and helped us budget for the work. He provided a detailed proposal with a reasonable price. He then engaged an engineer to draw up plans, made sure the permitting was achieved, and oversaw the project. His workmen did exactly what we expected in good time. We got what we asked for and nothing less (and even a little more). This was an anxiety-free project."

"CJS air was such a pleasure to work with! Punctual, professional and friendly. Claudia visited our home for an estimate and returned the next day with scaffolding to clean all of our ducts. She stayed until 8pm to finish the job and emailed me before and after photos when the work was complete. We received another estimate from Sears but they tried to upcharge us for all sorts of things. Call CJS!"

"My father's house had horrendous duct problems. The old cardboard insulation on some of the overhead ducts fell apart, and there was condensation, which caused rot and attracted roaches and ants.

All Air did a very thorough inspection and had a guy plan everything out and do drawings. Then they came in and did the work. They were courteous, and as far as I can tell, the work is top-notch. They could be cheaper. I can't really justify an "A" for price. But I feel the work is worth it. There may be someone out there who will do the same grade of work for a better price, but if you call All Air, they will get it done and go home, and you won't have a lot of problems. That's unusual these days.

We did have one issue. They taped protective carpet scraps to the wood floors, and they did not use non-marring tape, so now there is some scarring. The floors were already in bad shape. Otherwise, this would be a serious problem. They also banged up a door, which I am going to have to repaint.

Also, All Air did not show up for the city inspection, which caused some aggravation.

Overall, I would use them again and recommend them, without hesitation. They improved the house a great deal. The work is excellent (far above Miami standards), and there were no real headaches. They just need to be careful about the details."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Winterizing your outdoor plumbing keeps your outdoor spigot from freezing and potentially bursting. This includes draining residual water out of the pipe and spigot after turning the valve off, then removing garden hoses and other attachments from the spigot before winter comes. Insulating the pipe that leads to the spigot and installing a freeze-proof faucet also help, as does installing an outdoor faucet protector.

Asbestos has many beneficial properties, including fire resistance, strength, and chemical resistance. It is also an excellent insulator, which is why it was used in pipe insulation and other building materials for decades. For all its benefits, asbestos is dangerous for human health, which is why it was eventually banned from use in certain products.

You don’t need to staple insulation, as your drywall and studs will hold it into place. But if you already have a staple gun and staples lying around, it can help keep the product in place and avoid any shifting. But, most experts agree it’s an unnecessary step.

If you’re adding a vapor barrier, you will need to staple that in place.

Rockwool insulation can last up to 100 years, but just how long this insulation lasts in your home depends on how well it's maintained. Poorly installed insulation may last only 30 years, so be sure to regularly inspect your home's insulation for water damage, settling, and pests to give your insulation the best chance of having a long lifespan.

Single-pane windows might let in the cold, but if you’re not ready for a long-term solution or window replacement, there are quick fixes to keep your space warmer. Start by sealing gaps with weatherstripping or caulking around the frame to block drafts. For an extra barrier, apply window insulation film to the glass, trapping an air pocket between the film and the window. Thick curtains or thermal drapes can also help keep the chill at bay. And if you’re in a pinch and looking to get creative, bubble wrap can provide a surprisingly effective layer of insulation—just spritz the window with water and press it on, bubble side in.
