50 Employees. No subs. Cost is determined by flat & hourly rates. Travel charges will apply. Ask about Angie’s List discount. It all started some thirty years ago when our own John Healey founded a fledgling moving and storage company. Today, that company has grown into the full service moving industry leader, Big John's Moving Inc., a thriving business with the capacity to dispatch fully insured crews, day and night, to residences, offices, factories and warehouses.

"They sent a gentleman to give us an estimate, and he was very courteous, knowledgeable and professional. On moving day, it was raining, but the crew arrived punctually, and they, too, were professional, and treated our things carefully. Nothing was broken, scratched or lost. The move went smoothly and quickly. All the furniture was put in the place we designated. Best of all, the final cost was actually less than the original estimate. We have recommended Big John's to several friends/acquaintances, and each one has had a positive experience using them."

Piano Moving questions, answered by experts

Moving a one-bedroom apartment yourself can range from $150 to more than $1,500, depending on distance, the amount of belongings you have, and more. On the other hand, the cost of hiring movers for a one-bedroom apartment is around $1,850 on average. You’ll save money with the DIY route, but the process is much more labor-intensive and time-consuming.

The most expensive part of moving is hiring professional movers. However, hiring a pro is more efficient and less stressful, so many people find the cost worth it. You’ll also spend a lot of money on packing supplies, including boxes, tape, and bubble wrap, so ask around to see if any friends or family members have old supplies you can use for free.

Some companies offer supplies like dollies and furniture pads for an additional fee. Confirm availability when renting.

Gym equipment can be heavy, so it’s best to transport it using a furniture dolly. When dealing with treadmills, weight machines, or other bulky items, hiring professional movers or roping in some friends and renting a moving van makes sense.

Before your piano movers arrive, it’s a good idea to prep the piano for its journey to avoid damage, as well as clear a path to make the move as easy as possible. You can start by using bubble wrap and moving blankets to protect the keys, lids, and pedals. Drape moving blankets over the piano and secure them, if possible, to protect the surface from damage. Next, clear furniture and other obstructions out of the path from the piano to the door. It’s also wise to maintain a close spot for the moving truck to park out front.
