"We were extremely pleased with the service & quality of workmanship that was provided by Brian and his crew. Being a retired contractor from NYC it was a real pleasure to have the project done in a timely & efficient manner. I have no aversion recommending him to others."

Small jobs welcome

"I recently had a wood fence installed by Marshal landscaping LLC and am beyond thrilled with the final product!!! Adam, Kris and Devon were extremely helpful, attentive and knowledgeable. Adam and Kris made great recommendations when I was not sure of what to do or what decision to make. They also repaired part of a link fence and completed a roof for for the bird seeds I put out. They made this whole process smooth and stress free for me. This experience was outstanding and I am highly satisfied with the outcome. I cannot say enough good things about Adam and his company. They exceeded my expectations, I HIGHLY recommend them and will definitely use them again!"

"I hired Hackford to remove two massive trees, stamp grind, and hallway all debris. I also had them remove dead shrubs, trimmed the front shrubs, and raise the canopy of a tree. The crew took a day and a half and were courteous and efficient. I was very pleased with how good the yard looked. I'd hire Brandon for future jobs and I highly recommend them."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Trenchers can dig holes as narrow as 4 inches or as wide as 4 feet. Check the specifications of the trencher you rent or buy to determine how wide it will cut into the landscape. Better yet, let the excavation company know how wide you’d like the trench to be, and they can help you choose the right trencher for the job (or do it for you).

Trenching and boring are two distinct methods for installing underground utilities. Trenching involves digging a channel using equipment like an excavator, trencher, backhoe, or shovel. While it is a simpler process, it causes significant disruption to the surface, landscaping, and surrounding ecosystems.

Boring, also known as directional boring, is a less invasive alternative that uses a drill to create a tunnel for utility lines without disturbing the surface. This method is more precise and is ideal for installations that need to go underneath buildings, roads, or bodies of water. Although boring is less disruptive, it is generally more expensive than trenching.

Yes, professional installations include trenching or borehole drilling required for ground loops.

The digging depth will depend on the size of the trencher you use. Even smaller units can dig up to 4 feet deep, which is plenty for a DIY job. However, much larger trenchers can reach a depth of 18 feet and are better used by a team of pro contractors, not a single DIYer. As with all home improvement projects, use the right tool for the job and proceed with caution.

Depending on the severity of the freeze and the method used, thawing frozen underground pipes can take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours. Applying heat directly to the pipe using heat tape, infrared lamps, or hot water jetting can speed up the process. However, patience and careful monitoring are key to avoiding pipe damage.
