"Totally satisfied with their work. They reinstalled vapor barrier that was damaged by hurricane Michael. They installed batt insulation in a large shed that was recently built. Made a huge difference in the temps."

"I had a great experience with A Squared Home Improvement. Alex and Addison were punctual, courteous, and professional. Unlike some other companies, they were very thorough in the inspection of my attic insulation and took the time to explain the issues as well as answer my questions. I am very happy with the results of the radiant barrier insulation that was installed. Both, Alex and Addison, took the time to follow up with me personally. I highly recommend them!"

Small jobs welcome

"They were fantastic and a great value. They were straight shooters, did not give me more than I need in terms of cost or fanciness. They took time (efficiently) to inspect onsite what needed to be done, and finished faster than intended. They even vacuumed up after themselves-above & beyond. I waited a week to see the effects before posting, to be more useful. The improvement in my house's heating and cooling was instant. They came after a long cold streak in Tallahassee (January) and were coming to do two jobs: (1) updating insulation for my 30-year old house with a metal roof and existing insulation and (2) partially-finished garage/office. Now our attic closets & office are more moderate in temperature & do not leak as much hot/cold air. This helps energy efficiency and makes the space more usable. They gave good guidance on that front, too for any future renovations. Went from a 30+ degree differential between the house/closets to a ~5 degree. We use them & my office much more!"

"I highly recommend this spray foam company! Freddie was professional, honest, and great to work with from start to finish. He took the time to explain everything, showed up when he said he would, and made sure the job was done right. The quality of the work exceeded my expectations, and you can tell he truly takes pride in what he does. If you’re looking for someone reliable who delivers excellent results, Freddie and his team are the ones to call. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again or recommend them to family and friends!"

"These guys came out (quickly btw) and made my house so much more comfortable- it was always so humid inside and now it is cold. They even have a thermal camera that showed me where heat was coming into my house. I got to see the thermal imaging before/after the insulation was put in. Highly recommend the icebox guys!!"

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

Whether you need a drywall anchor depends on the specifics of your project, particularly what you're hanging and where. You do not need a drywall anchor if you can screw or nail the object directly into a wooden stud, as the wood provides sufficient support and stability. However, if there are no studs in the location where you plan to hang the item, you should use drywall anchors to ensure it is securely supported. For very lightweight objects, like small pictures, adhesive picture hanging strips can be a suitable alternative to anchors.

The amount of drywall you need for a 1,000-square-foot basement depends on the ceiling height, angles, number of doors and windows, and more. To find the wall square footage, multiply the width and height of each wall, minus any gaps from windows or doors, and add the totals together. You’ll also need enough drywood nails or screws to install the drywall correctly.

Furring strips, thin strips of wood or metal, are not always required for ceiling drywall installation. If the ceiling surface is even and in good condition, drywall can be directly attached to the ceiling joists using screws. However, furring strips become essential when dealing with irregular surfaces or when additional insulation or soundproofing is needed. They create a level substrate for attaching the drywall. Ultimately, the decision to use furring strips depends on the condition of the existing ceiling and the specific requirements of the project.

Regular dusting, occasional repainting, and avoiding harsh scrubbing preserve the finish.

Knowing what causes drywall damage can help stop it before it starts. Here are some of the most common causes of drywall damage:

  • Water damage from roof leaks or leaky pipes.

  • Small holes caused by doorknobs, minor accidents, and rodent infestations.

  • Wall dents stemming from moving furniture and minor accidents.

  • Wall cracks that form from a settling foundation or seismic activity.

  • Nail pops from nails and screws in the walls.

  • Large holes that are caused by accidents with heavy objects, children and pets, or sporting equipment.
