"David helped us with a house remodel where he took down multiple walls, installed and repaired drywall, rerouted plumbing and electrical in the kitchen, installed multiple fans and light fixtures. This was the second time we used his service as he did a great job years ago remodeling our bathroom. He has a great eye for detail and is a true artisan."

"Ryder and Wayne were both extremely knowledgeable in helping me refresh my home. I have a plaster texture on my ceilings that Ryder was an expert at matching and Wayne was incredibly careful at removing old shelving without damaging walls before painting. Their advice, patience and hard work was very much appreciated. Kelly in the office was always accommodating in scheduling to help minimize my time away from home. I am glad JL Midas recommended LHP!"

"Lee and Nick are the best. They provided me with an accurate estimate and drawing for our new cabinets. Lee's follow through during the process was great and kept us well informed. On the day of install the team tape off our non-work areas to reduce dust and vacuumed up each day when they finished. There was an error in ordering the doors and they were not able to install them for 5 weeks. When this error was noticed, prior to leaving, Nick and the Team made sure all cabinets and drawers were usable so we could put everything away and use all the features. Lee kept us posted on the doors and when they arrived Nick and the team promptly came over and installed them. The paint colors on the doors matched perfectly with everything else. We will use Better cabinets and baths again for any kitchen and bath needs."

"We rented a home in Port St. John based on internet pics. When we arrived, the house was filthy. It had been cleared of clutter but not cleaned properly for many years. We couldn’t walk on the floors without our socks or feet turning black. Erica and Eric showed up, and Erica immediately got to work the next day. She scrubbed grimy tile floors with a bristle brush, baking soda, and vinegar. It took four attempts but now the tiled floors are clean and bright! She attacked the master bath. It looks so brand new I felt a little guilty using it. She made the wood floors in the bedrooms glow. Mirror like finish that reflects so much light! We hired her back again! This will be her third visit! She is going to get into the Nit-Picky stuff today. I am thrilled. I am picky and she is rocking it! I can’t wait to use Eric, the other member of the Handy Team."

"We love our new closet!"

Building a custom closet costs about $2,000, on average. Because many types, sizes, and designs are available, the cost to build custom closets ranges from $250 to $6,000 or more. A reach-in closet is on the lower end of the price range from about $250 to $1,500, compared to a walk-in closet at $750 to $3,500 or a wardrobe at the high end between $1,500 and $6,000 or more.
The main difference between a closet and a wardrobe is that a closet is a separate room for general storage with its own door, and a wardrobe can be either built-in or freestanding place to store clothing. A walk-in or reach-in closet connected to a bedroom often serves the same purpose as a wardrobe by primarily storing clothes and shoes. A built-in wardrobe often does not have doors and leaves clothes exposed to view, whereas a standalone wardrobe usually has doors.
You may need a building permit to add a closet, depending on the size and kind of work required to install it. The most likely scenario requiring a permit involves changing the structure of the house and performing electrical work for closet lighting. A permit can cost between $100 and $450. If you’re installing a smaller reach-in closet, a permit may not be required, but always check with your local municipality and consult a closet designer or builder.
Different types of closets are defined mostly by size. A few different types of closets include:
A reach-in closet is a smaller closet that you can stand in front of and reach everything inside it. Aside from the size, the doors and the level of drywall finish are typically the largest price factors.
A walk-in closet can be anything from a small 5-by-5 feet closet that has a narrow walkway with shelves on both sides to a 100 square foot bedroom-sized closet with shelving along the walls and plenty of room to move around in.
A built-in wardrobe often does not have a door and leaves the clothes and other contents open to the room, whereas a closet usually has a door to separate it from the rest of the room.
Yes, building a custom closet can definitely add value to your home. Creating a more useful and pleasing space to your home, especially a custom closet for prospective home buyers to imagine as their own, is likely to increase the value. However, avoid overdoing it with a closet that takes up too much space that’s otherwise more useful as living space, or paying extra for overly lavish materials and finishes that aren’t likely to add more value than they cost.
