"Casey did bathroom remodeling and we basically gutted hall bath. He installed new tub, new glass shower door, removed shower insert and tiled the area. He did all new plumbing fixtures. We took a linen closet and moved the cabinet into that area. He put in the cabinet, sink, mirror, and tile. He also installed the beadboard and laid the luxury vinyl plank. In the 2nd bath he removed shower insert, retiled the shower, installed shower door and redid plumbing fixtures. He also did flooring. In the kitchen he did tile work and same flooring. My house is off grade which required him to go underneath the house. Casey’s work is meticulous. He takes pride in every facet of his job and offered helpful suggestions along the way. He was prompt, competitively priced and has a terrific work ethic and attitude. Recently I had a busted pipe from snow storm and he came over immediately and repaired the broken line. I would highly recommend Casey for any type of work you need done - big or small!"

Customers say: True professional

"McDonald Construction did a great job installing new Zoysia sod in my front yard. Workers did a good job. One of my next door neighbor had hers done the next week, and the neighbor on the other side is going to have theirs done also. They saw what a good job he did on my lawn,"

Fencing questions, answered by experts

The most affordable metal fence type is wire at just $3 to $5 per linear foot. Wire fences come in a variety of styles and do a good job of marking perimeters and keeping animals in or out of certain areas. While they’re very easy to install and repair, many homeowners find them unattractive, and many homeowners associations won’t allow them.

Who pays for a new fence between neighbors depends on its location relative to the property line. If you build the fence entirely on your property, you are solely responsible for the costs of installation, maintenance, and repair. If the fence is built directly on the property line, both neighbors are typically responsible for the costs. In this case, it is essential to consult with your neighbor beforehand to agree on a plan for payment. While you should always inform your neighbor of your plans in advance, you generally cannot force them to contribute financially unless there are specific local laws, such as in California, where both parties might be responsible for costs unless a different agreement exists. It's a good idea to get a property line survey to know the exact boundaries before building.

The ideal distance between fence posts depends on several factors, including the terrain, the purpose of the fence, and the material used. For different types of fences, here are some general guidelines:

  • Wood and Metal Fences: Posts should be spaced between 5 and 8 feet apart.

  • Vinyl Fences: Spacing can be between 6 and 8 feet.

  • Chain-Link, Mesh, or Lattice Fences: Posts can be set anywhere from 4 to 25 feet apart, with 4-10 feet being common for chain-link.

  • Wire Fences: Spacing can be up to 12 feet apart.

The most common type of metal fence today is one made of either steel or aluminum. These materials are relatively easy to fabricate, making them much more cost-effective than traditional metal fencing handmade from wrought iron. They’re also much lighter and easier to install, contributing to their affordability and making them more DIY-friendly.

It’s usually cheaper to buy pre-made fence panels than to build your own. This surprises many people since DIY tasks so often save money. However, large stores don’t have to pay the same amount per board of wood that homeowners do, allowing them to sell pre-made panels at a more cost-effective rate. Pre-made panels also save a great deal of time, energy, and guesswork. The drawback is that they are harder to customize to the shape and slope of your yard.
