"I just used Souza Brick paver to complete my driveway. This is the second job they’ve done for me, having done patios, gravel and yard clearing for me last year. Once again, they did an outstanding job. They offered a fair price with dependable service. They’re always happy to make corrections and they care about customer satisfaction. Super nice owner."

"They were reliable, reasonable and very hard working. Did what you asked them to do and were very courteous. I would recommend them highly. I have used them many times for putting up a fence, laying sod, clearing out the yard and for the sprinkler system . Very pleased with their services."

"Started work early. Removed trees , brush and spread truckloads of dirt to level the yard. Actually shopped for the best dirt price and saved me about $250.00. He could have pocketed that money and I would have never known. Honest, knowledgeable, personable and did over and above the scope of work he was hired to do. In this city it is amazing to have this degree of service. Would definitely recommend this company and I will use them on my next project."

"It sounds so simple for just needing sod and rock, but it was a large area. Bruce and his team knocked it out of the park! They were professional, kept us informed, and did a great job at a reasonable price. We will be hiring them for stage 2 of the job. 10 STARS!!!!"

Small jobs welcome

"Cris is professional, knowledgeable and reliable. His first mowing, edging and blowing project brought our oversized property back to pristine condition. Two weeks later, he was back for a Fall cleanup involving pruning large trees, shrubs and palms. We are very happy with his work. B5 Quality Services is aptly named. We plan to utilize their services for our future lawn and landscape needs."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

As much as you might try to keep a healthy, nutrient-rich lawn, you still may notice signs of St. Augustine decline (SAD)—a viral disease that discolors your grass blades. St. Augustine decline looks like:

  • Discoloration in the leaves (chlorosis)—leaves appear yellow and splotchy

  • Decline in growth

  • Leaves turn black within 3 years

  • Grass appears less vibrant

  • Grass begins to thin

  • Root rot

  • Grass takes longer to recover

Buying plants from a nursery is one thing, but ensuring that they are properly planted is another. While you might not need to hire a landscaper for every plant that you buy from a nursery, it’s a great idea to have their expertise and experience to plant larger items, like burlapped trees or specialty plants like rose bushes. Even better, before making a trip to a nursery to buy new plants, consult a local landscaper to test your soil for pH levels, soil texture, and phosphorus and potassium levels to help determine the best plants for your area.

The average cost for landscaping is around $3,500, but prices can range from as low as $200 for simple DIY projects to $14,000 or more for extensive work. Several factors influence the final price, including your geographic location, yard size, project scope, chosen materials, site preparation, and the type of landscaping involved. Professional landscaper labor costs typically range from $50 to $100 per hour.

For a smaller budget, you can focus on softscaping projects like adding mulch, flowers, and shrubs, which might only cost a few hundred dollars if you do the work yourself. A budget of around $5,000 could cover projects like a simple patio, new plants and tree trimming, or a water feature. More extensive hardscaping projects, such as pergolas, patios, and walkways, can push the budget to $14,000 or more. For example, a flower bed installation averages between $800 and $3,000, while landscape lighting installation can cost from $2,000 to $6,000.

DIY home gardening can be relaxing, joyful, and cost-effective. From mowing your lawn to planting your own flower beds, there is a wide variety of gardening tasks that you can do yourself to make your yard look beautiful. If you’d rather spend your time not in the dirt, or if you’d like someone to take care of your plants for you, calling a professional gardening service is best. They can give you a workup of what services you’ll need and how often to schedule them.

It’s usually best to buy plants from a local greenhouse or nursery yourself, but landscapers are also a reliable option. First, you can choose exactly what plants you want based on their appearance rather than relying on your landscaper to choose. Additionally, while it’s more time-consuming to go buy the plants yourself, you’ll often save money because landscapers charge for delivery and may upcharge the plants. You can also speak to a professional at a nursery to ensure you understand how to care for your plants and get the most long-term value.
