"As before Eric was Awesome. I was gone but my friend was here and he is the one that recommended DH the last time and praised our Eric again. The installation was professional ànd first class! Stephanie has also been professional and wonderful to deal with. DH is our electrician for life. Please tell Eric to get his back fixed. I know you will support him if he needs to take time off. Thanks John and Patty Drott"

"The best electrician we have ever hired in Florida. They were able to start the project on time and on budget, very good response time. On the money as far as arrival time. They were able to fit our project to our time schedule, the owner, Christian is a “SAINT” for putting up with us. We are retired and want the best job for the money, so far we have received it. A company we hired to install a sun umbrella and special sun screens for some windows, has not been able to “FIND” our shipped order. We can not start the second phase of the wiring project until the product is installed. The electrician is good with that, and will complete the permitted job when the product is installed. Thank You"

"Henry was great. He arrived promptly, explained the work thoroughly, and worked cleanly and efficiently. Even when one of the smart switches I wanted installed didnâ t work, he waited for me to run to the store to pick up a new one. Excellent customer service!"

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Costs depend on generator type, labor, and additional wiring or transfer switch requirements.

While the rating will tell you how many watts the refrigerator needs at the peak of its cycle, it requires additional wattage to start. At the bare minimum, you’ll need a 1,500-watt generator to get the fridge up and running after a blackout. A 2,000-watt generator should be sufficient for most home refrigerators.

The amount of time a standby generator can run continuously is around 3,000 hours on average. However, standby generators can generally run indefinitely as long as they have a continuous fuel supply. Generators hooked up to a home’s natural gas supply are the best option for extended usage, as these won’t rely on a finite fuel supply based on how much you have in storage. Generators running on liquid propane or diesel won’t last as long, as these require fuel storage and regular refueling to stay running.

In most cases, there are no tax credits available for home generators. However, that’s a general statement that applies to federal tax credits, so you might have access to state or local tax incentives. You can check the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency (DSIRE) for more information about your area. If you hire a reliable home generator installer, they should also know if there are any state or local perks you can use to reduce your installation costs, including tax breaks and rebates.

No, you should never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet in your house. This practice is extremely dangerous, often illegal, and can cause "back-feeding," where power from the generator flows back into utility lines, creating a life-threatening hazard for utility workers. It can also damage your home's electrical system, including appliances like pumps and HVAC fans. If the main power is restored while the generator is connected, it can destroy the generator and cause an electrical fire. To safely connect a generator, you must use a professionally installed transfer switch or an interlocking kit, which prevents back-feeding by disconnecting your home from the utility grid before the generator provides power.
