"AAA construction is the contractor we hired to remodel our house. Kitchen, bathrooms, floors, essentially the entire interior of the home. From day one, until we moved in and even until recently when a small adjustment needed to be made, their professionalism, attention to detail and talents as contractors were second to none. We met with many contractors before we sat down with John to discuss our plans and before Dustin came to our house to start the remodel. I can honestly say that we were lucky in hiring them. These days it is difficult to find a skilled much less honest contractor to perform even simple jobs. When you add the knowledge and experience they have I believe it would be very difficult to match. Their work ethic is what some of us would refer to as old school. Again this is something you can appreciate after you meet with enough other companies and realize how many impostors there are in Dade County. With AAA you have a contractor with a college degree in this field. Do yourself a favor and in the very least contact them and discuss your plans. Feel free to contact me via email for a reference. "Saw display at home and garden show.  Researched product and company, then ordered 4X4 shelter via telephone.  Company provided additional details about testing and certification IAW FEMA standards upon request.  Delivery and installation were on time and as promised."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

A structural engineer’s report is almost always worth it, as it can help you avoid buying or overpaying for a home with structural issues. The most important thing the report does for you is provide peace of mind that you won’t have to pay thousands of dollars for structural repairs right after closing on a property.

You need to hire a structural engineer when building or modifying any component with a structural load in your home. Common situations where you would need a structural engineer include home inspections when buying or selling a home, investigating possible issues with your foundation, beams, load-bearing walls, or chimneys, breaking ground on a new home or structure on your property, and renovating an old part of your home that could threaten any structural integrity. Home additions and bump-outs also require an engineer.

On average, 6 inches of concrete can hold around 150 pounds per square foot, but the exact weight that 6 inches of concrete can hold depends on factors such as the type of concrete, the reinforcement method, soil conditions below, and structural design. If you’re concerned about the longevity of your concrete patio, walkway, or driveway, hire a professional to help you choose an appropriate concrete thickness and reinforcement method for your needs.

No, it’s not legal for unlicensed individuals to conduct structural calculations for buildings or building repairs. Not only do licensing requirements prevent DIYers from tackling this project, but mistakes can also be extremely dangerous and put your property and anyone inside or near it at risk of severe injury or even death. You should always hire a licensed and certified local structural engineer to make structural calculations.

Generally, you can tell if a home is bolted to the foundation by checking the foundation for plates. If you see that your foundational plates connect to wood or bolts protruding from them, this means that you have a bolted foundation. However, it's always wise to bring a home inspector in to confirm if your foundation is secure.
