"It went great. The company was responsive to my email & had someone out within a few days for a quote. McGregor came out and was so friendly - but also knowledgeable and skilled. He told me his recommendation & answered all my questions about the fence & what our best options would be. He sent a quote the next day & we took a few days to think it over. A week later McGregor followed up with us (no pressure) via email just to touch base & see if we had any other questions - we did. He responded quickly by answering our questions & providing photos for reference. We decided to book with him. A day after signing the contract, DJ was in our neighborhood & stopped by the house to see if we were open to having our fence repaired right then (rather than waiting). DJ was so kind & skilled & repaired our fence very quickly while informing us of challenges with the repair. DJ repaired two 8 foot gates, restored hinges and handles, installed new drop rods, and even repaired pickets of the fence that were damaged from hurricane Ian (which is why broken the gates off of the fence) I highly recommend FCNM!"

"Adrian did a great job. I would recommend him hands down. He replaced my fence in a Timely manner. Reasonable price also cut down some trees for me and I’m going to have him come back and do some painting for me because he did such a great job. He’s also a very nice person."

Gate Repair questions, answered by experts

To make your gate safe, purchase a gate made from strong material such as wrought iron, stainless steel, or other metals. Ensure that the gate has strong joints and bars that are welded on rather than inserted loosely. If you’re concerned about people climbing over your gate, you can deter them by installing fence spikes along the top as an extra precaution.

Automatic gate openers last around 10 years, but this time span depends on several external factors, like the type of gate they're attached to and how well you’ve kept up with general maintenance. Despite lasting a decade, you should still expect to complete one or two repairs in that time, as some components will fail before others.

For homeowners concerned about security, an electric gate may offer peace of mind. Electric gates will require a code or remote to open, so you don’t have to worry about young children getting out of the yard or someone breaking onto your property by simply swinging open the gate. But because it needs power to operate, installing an electric gate will be more complex and expensive.

No, you can’t use a garage door opener as a gate opener. Automatic garage door openers and automatic gate openers serve similar functions and may even operate similarly via remote control; however, they aren’t interchangeable. Garage door openers aren’t intended for outdoor use and can’t withstand exposure to the elements.

Yes, most electric and automatic gates can be opened manually. They are equipped with a manual override or release mechanism that detaches the motor from the gate, allowing it to be moved by hand. This feature is essential during power outages or other emergencies.

To activate the manual override, you will typically need a specific key or tool. In some cases, you may also need a screwdriver to remove a cover to access the release mechanism. The use of a key is a common security measure to prevent unauthorized individuals from manually opening the gate.

Because every model is different, it is highly recommended to consult your gate's user manual to familiarize yourself with the specific procedure before you need to use it. Keep any necessary keys or tools in an accessible location. Be aware that automatic gates can be very heavy, so opening and closing them manually may be difficult.

In North America, electric gates are also subject to the UL 325 Standard for Safety, which includes provisions to allow emergency responders to access the property.
