"Jose was quick to respond and the work was completed within 24 hours of my inquiry. He did a great job removing overgrown tree branches that were leaning on our roof. Because that was the most urgent work needed, we realized there was much more landscaping and weeding needed that we will be hiring him again for additional maintenance. He was not the least expensive but the quickest to respond and was very helpful and professional and kept his promise. He also made sure the roof was free of debris when he was finished. Late August, September, and mid-October are the ideal months for planting a young tree. However, the best time to plant a tree ultimately depends on when the weather transitions to fall-like conditions and eventually winter frost. As long as the hottest days of summer have passed and the ground hasn’t frozen yet, you can still successfully plant trees.

A general rule is that trees need 10 gallons of water for each inch of the tree’s diameter. For large trees, that can amount to approximately 160 gallons of water or more. Watering big trees to this extent can take quite a bit of time using a hose. For this reason, you may consider installing a soaker hose or sprinkler system to make the job easier.  

You can trim just one side of the tree, especially when that side is growing near something like a power line or a home. Pros will carefully trim the tree back until it is safe from that structure. While this is common, it also needs to be done with the utmost care, as pruning or trimming away at one side of the tree may make it structurally unsound. This instance is yet another where hiring a pro is wise, especially if power lines are involved.

If it’s your property, then you can plant a tree near power lines, but it’s not the best idea. Any vegetation that grows within 10 feet or so of power lines will fall under the responsibility of the utility company, and they may trim or remove it as necessary. You should use an herbicide to kill ivy, such as one with glyphosate, imazapyr, or triclopyr.
