"Kurt was quick to respond and came out immediately at 9:30pm from Ocala. He diagnosed the system and located the problem. After vacuuming out the drain line and replacing the float valve the issue was solved. Being a 10+ year old system he recommended that it might need to be replaced in a couple years. Ventless portable units, often called evaporative coolers, do not have exhaust hoses. They use a water reservoir and a cooling pad to add moisture to the air, making it feel cooler. These units work best in dry climates because humid areas cannot absorb much additional moisture.

For standard portable air conditioners that do require venting, a window is not the only option; they can also be vented through a door, wall, or ceiling. However, it is essential to vent these units properly. Running a standard portable AC without venting it is counterproductive because it needs to expel heat to cool the room. Failing to do so will only increase the room's temperature.

Common signs of insufficient return air include uneven temperatures, with some parts of your home feeling hotter or colder than others, and noticeable differences in air pressure between rooms. There are two main reasons your furnace and AC are turning on at the same time. The first could be that you’re confusing the furnace with the blower. The blower is located in the furnace and will turn on to distribute cool air from the air conditioner through the ductwork in the home. This is normal. If the actual furnace is turning on at the same time as the AC and hot and cool air are coming into the home, it could be a result of incorrect writing to a new thermostat or new systems.

Window AC units use a fair amount of electricity, but significantly less than central AC systems. Because they are more energy-efficient for cooling individual rooms or small spaces, their usage is comparatively low. On average, a window AC unit consumes between 500 and 1,400 watts, while a central AC system uses over 3,500 watts—meaning a window unit uses about one-third of the energy.
