"During a routine cleaning of my dryer vent, the plastic housing began to crumble. Replacing the vent required removing portions of the siding and trim around it, which was outside my comfort zone. I was browsing home advisor on a Sunday night and was matched with Dave Grimes of Cypress Contracting. Monday morning I received a call saying he was in the area doing another job and could stop by afterwards. I am very satisfied with Dave's work replacing my vent and will definitely contact him again in the future when I need more work done. This was a great experience and I enthusiastically recommend him to others."

"They were excellent. Very good service. They power washed roof and siding. They also did walkways and patios. We cannot believe how wonderful it looks. We strongly recommend them."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Many people remove aluminum siding to get to the wood underneath, allowing them to paint, stain, or finish the wood to give the home a brand-new aesthetic. With that in mind, you find plywood and related types of wood underneath aluminum siding, but you also run into fiber cement board, strand board, and a diverse array of other building materials. It depends on the original design of the house.

Vinyl siding is durable, low-maintenance, weather-resistant, and available in various colors and styles. It also provides excellent insulation, improving energy efficiency.

Concrete log siding offers some cost savings when compared to wood logs. Real wood logs require ongoing maintenance that can total up to $750 annually, while concrete log siding doesn’t require annual maintenance. Since concrete log siding exceeds the requirements of most building codes, it can also lower insurance premiums and boost resale value.

Contrary to popular belief, people still do use aluminum siding for their homes—but it’s much less popular than it was in the mid-1900s. The introduction of various types of vinyl siding as an affordable option reduced the demand for aluminum, which is prone to scratching and denting and needs to be repainted every five to 10 years. Given the abundance of house siding options, especially newer and more popular types like stone veneer siding, aluminum siding has simply just fallen out of favor.

Insulated vinyl siding costs about twice as much as the cheapest form of vinyl siding, but it’s still more affordable than other types of siding, including fiber cement, wood, stone, and brick. You get a lot of bang for your buck with vinyl siding; it’s durable, it’s available in a wide range of styles and colors, and it helps lower your energy bills.
