"My wife and I have dealt with quite a few different landscapers over the years, and while most are have been competent, their bench strength is not always deep. Once you get past the estimator/owner, the skills of the rest of the team drops off considerably. We have found that, at the end of the day, successful projects and happy customers are the result of having a strong team end-to-end. Our latest project involved removal of some of our existing landscape plants, and replacing them with more appealing plants, as well as the addition of some landscape lighting, and mulching. We called Pierce L. Shallis Landscaping (found via Angies list) and scheduled an appointment. When we first met with Pierce L. Shallis to discuss our project, we were very impressed with him. He was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. As things progressed, we became acquainted with the rest of the Shallis team: Cody was very good to work with in reviewing and mangaging the lighting package as well as the overall project execution. Heather and Barbie provided excellent and courteous front office support, communications and coordination. Both Pierce and Cody were present on the day the project was completed and were able to quickly answer any questions or concerns The install team was friendly, courteous, hard working, and meticulous. In short, Pierce and his team are great to deal with, across the board and have competitive pricing. We highly recommend Pierce L Shallis Landscaping for all of your landscaping needs."

"Steve came to install a 2 story ceiling lights and ended up installing four additional lights. Steve and Matt were professional, cleaned up afterwards and did an excellent job. One light required moving the electrical box to center the light. All mess was cleaned up immediately."

"We have a 3 storey house and the team at Brite Idea came out and put up the lights on the house. They had to come out a second day with a longer ladder to finish up but the end job was worth the wait. We did the lights around the bushes which balanced the others beautifully. We agreed to a 3 year contract which suits us since we love having the house lit up for the holidays. I'm sure we'll continue as long as we live here."

"Michael and his crew did a very professional job on the new electric service and new electrical panel.  They paid attention to the little details that made the installation look good.   He also gave us much better price than a few of our other quotes.  Planning to use him again if needed."

Lighting questions, answered by experts

If your lights are shorting out during rain storms or other winter events, you should probably replace them. These shorts indicate electrical issues that could cause serious hazards. Look for outdoor-rated lights with connectors made for rainy conditions to replace them. But if your Christmas lights are new and you want further protection, you can find weatherproof covers to add to the male-end connectors of your Christmas light strings. These can minimize the risk of shorts.

If you’ve gone through the troubleshooting checklist for your motion detector flood light and it’s still not working, it’s time to consider a new one. Older models that need frequent fixes can be unreliable. Newer flood lights feature advanced technology that improves your lights’ sensitivity and overall performance. If you’re fed up with unexpected darkness, investing in a new light can give you the lighting you need to feel secure.

Inspect for burnt-out bulbs, secure connections, and protect from water exposure to maintain functionality.

You can take a few steps to prolong the life of your holiday lights. Make sure to replace burnt-out bulbs as quickly as possible to avoid overloading the rest of the circuit and knocking out more lights. Before packing them up each year, plug each strand into the wall to confirm everything is still working. Wrap the lights carefully back into their original packaging or something similar—winding a strand tightly together or leaving it to hang loose in a storage bin can lead to frayed or damaged wiring.

The cost to repair a short circuit depends on the type of repair. A faulty outlet or simple loose wire can be a simple fix that might only cost a handful of dollars. For example, if you need to rewire a house, you’ll spend around $2 to $4 per square foot, but replacing an entire electrical panel costs anywhere from $500 to $2,100.
