"Al was fantastic! He clearly explained that my fireplace was shutting off as a safety feature due to low oxygen levels. He also reassembled the logs in the firebox and showed me the proper way to start and stop the fireplace. Highly recommend his service!"

"I hired DJ of All Things Chimney to help me with some considerable repair on my chimney and install a liner for my Oil-fired boiler. He and his crew did an amazing job on the house. They were prompt, professional and extremely easy to work with. The liner was installed with no issues and my boiler is now much safer. After that was finished, I had him install a Regency Hi500 Wood stove insert to go into the worn out fireplace. His crew did an amazing job on the install! They removed the worn out hearth bricks and put in a beautiful piece of blue stone. Before and after pictures are on this review. It came out fantastic. Every person that has seen it has complemented how good it looks. I'm still stunned by the heat it throws out, I filled my oil tank in mid November and still have 1/4 tank left as the wood stove has immensely cut down on the boiler needing to fire. I highly recommend giving All Things Chimney a call if you need any chimney or fireplace work done."

"Very professional and presented multiple options. We chose the middle option which was definitely the correct choice. They also checked my smoke alarm because I did not on the ladder and unable to reach that high. They left the jobsite cleaner than it was when they got there! If there was a way to give six stars they would get six plus!!!"

"Very nice and honest business to work with. Courteous, hardworking and efficient. I would recommend them to others! They repaired my chimney cap and replaced the flue cap with a squirrel proof cap. Also cleaned both flues and inside of wood stove from squirrel debris."

"The workers and office staff were easy to talk to, well informed, courteous , and efficient. They performed a thorough inspection. Recommended and installed a stainless liner and cap for the furnace flue and a new damper on the fireplace flue. Their price was better than previous quotes and even set up a partial payment plan. I am very pleased with the work they did."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

If you have a gas fireplace with an electric ignition and you’re experiencing a power outage, you will need to light your fireplace’s pilot manually before you can start a fire. The instructions should be in the manufacturer’s manual.

The most common sign of a carbon monoxide leak is the visible black soot marks on the walls near your wood stove. An excess accumulation of smoke in other rooms of your home could also indicate that your wood burning stove is leaking carbon monoxide. If you notice either of these signs or are still unsure, it’s best to leave the premises and contact your fire department to check your home’s levels.

You should never block both the top and bottom of your chimney. Proper airflow is essential because the temperature inside the chimney will still fluctuate as your house warms and cools. Moisture can build up without ventilation, leading to dampness in your walls over time. Blocking the top prevents debris and animals from entering, but the chimney still needs air circulation to avoid condensation issues. Allowing the chimney to breathe maintains the health of your home and prevents long-term damage.

For most brick cleaning jobs, including fireplace bricks, use a masonry sponge and a gentle cleaner. A simple solution of equal parts water and vinegar, or a few drops of dish soap in a bowl of water, can effectively remove grime. For tougher stains, you can use a dedicated masonry or fireplace cleaner. It is crucial to wet the bricks thoroughly with water before applying any cleaning solution to prevent the brick from absorbing it, and to rinse the surface completely afterward. Harsher cleaners containing bleach or ammonia should only be used as a last resort, and they should never be mixed together.

You can control the flame on a pellet stove by using a damper, often located on the back of the pellet stove. While the damper function varies by model, you can open the damper slightly to let in more air or close it slightly to provide less oxygen, with the ultimate goal of providing a steady flame.
