"The guy they sent out to do the work was friendly. In the process of draining the clog, the toilet started working differently when flushed, than before he started. Then when I asked if he could fix it so it could work how it used to; he told me he would have to charge me for it. Once he drained the clog, I asked how long was the work warranties/guaranteed for and he called the company to check, and they told him they do not warranty/guarantee their work. The clog was cleared but it would have been nice having that peace of mind knowing the work is guaranteed. I've hired pros before that have guaranteed their work for 6 months at-least."

"I needed a toilet replaced. When I put in the request for service, Spiro returned the call within 2 minutes and provided a quote. He arrived on time and what impressed me was how quick he was. It was only Spiro and he removed my old toilet and installed the new one in 45 minutes. He cleaned up everything and took the old toilet and all the cardboard. I would recommend Spiro to everyone."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

The most common reasons a toilet won’t stop running are a faulty flapper or fill valve, improper fill height, or incorrect chain length. Luckily, all these issues are relatively easy to fix with parts you can find at a local hardware store. You can also call a plumber or toilet repair professional to solve the problem.

For best results, you should remove the toilet in a bathroom before removing tile or installing new tile. If you don’t remove the toilet, it will be harder to fully waterproof the tile around the toilet, which could increase the risk of mold growth or plumbing leaks. If you have trouble removing the toilet, hire a plumber to help.

Toilets typically connect to your main vent stack, a vertical pipe that runs through all finished levels of your home and exits through the roof. It’s located behind the walls, but if you have an unfinished basement or a utility closet, you may find a portion of it running the vertical length of the space. Some basement toilets use an air admittance valve instead, which is a small vent located in the wall directly behind the toilet that extends upward a few feet from the drain.

Toilet augers are hand-held drain snakes. Most of them come with 3 to 6 feet of cleaning cable and a curved, plastic elbow sleeve to protect your toilet bowl. If your clog does not go beyond the toilet’s wax seal, a 3-foot auger would be sufficient. Otherwise, you may need a 6-foot auger to unclog the drain.

While the toilet bowl and toilet tank require haul away to your curb, landfill, or recycling center, you can dispose of your old, used toilet seat in your regular garbage collection. If your toilet seat is plastic or duroplast, you can even recycle it instead at a local recycling facility.
