2nd visit to replace our aging well tank and upgrade the filter system went really well. I was impressed with the extra attention to detail and the time spent in showing me how to replace the filters. We have great water pressure and clear, pleasant tasting water.
I do love the new well pump, though. I get excellent pressure and it doesn't vary from high to low like most provide. We also encountered a VERY strange problem with the house plumbing during this job that was difficult to diagnose. The Ben Franklin owner, Steve, worked hard to troubleshoot and repaired it for a miniscule fee (it was appropriate to charge extra for this problem). Steve is also a very personable guy who's always nice to deal with.
The biggest problem with Ben Franklin is that they're a fixed-price shop rather than hourly. While that can be a good thing, say if something goes wrong and the job takes extra time, it also means that some job quotes are absurd. The best example was when they quoted $280 to repair a leaky Delta bathtub faucet. I fixed it myself for $18.00 and a little time. The professional could have done it in 15 minutes.
They are punctual, very professional, always personable and clean. Aside from the pricing issues all of my dealings with Ben Franklin have been positive and their plumbers have been friendly and competent.
(The price I listed above is not right. It was about 6 years ago and I can't remember the price. The service date is for the last time they came to the house for the yearly plumbing inspection.)
The workers asked if we wanted them to leave the old copper pipe for us to take to the scrap dealer. We said yes. The scrap dealer paid $120 for it.
Overall, we are pretty satisfied with the work. The one thing that bothers us is the distance the hot water pipe runs between the hot water heater and kitchen sink. The old pipe ran 16 ft. and was on an outside wall. The new pipe takes the scenic route and is 30 ft. We have to run the water a long time to get hot water to the kitchen sink and it doesn't stay hot that long as it is running through the cold cellar. We added some pipe insulation to that pipe. It helps a little, but still takes a long time for the hot water to get there if it hasn't been used for a while.
