"Couldn't be happier. Joe and his team did an excellent job. He is extremely meticulous with his work and you could see how much the entire team pays attention to detail. They are proud of their work, and they should be. The driveway looks outstanding. We look forward to recommending them to all our friends and clients."

Customers say: Quality work

"Louie and his team were great. He and his wife were always prompt in communicating with us. The driveway and drainage work turned out great. I received a lot of compliments on my driveway from my neighbors. Louie even demolished a brick retaining wall that was collapsing at no additional cost. I would highly recommend P&M Paving."

Small jobs welcome

"Job has been completed. They arrived as scheduled, performed the work requested and cleaned up excess materials and remaining debris from the job site. As a result of the great job done on the original project, we requested that Ron's Masonry undertake a second project. They again arrived on time and completed the second project in the timeframe specified and within budget."

"i hired Sillo Paving though Home Advisor 2 months ago to replace a gravel driveway with a new asphalt driveway. They gave me today's date for the install and they showed up right on time. Chris and Klari have been great to work with. They did a great job and the driveway is perfect. They even added soil along our 200+ ft. driveway to blend the driveway in with the rest of the landscaping. Very professional job, and I highly recommend them. Lenny M"

"Excellent service! Highly recommend! David was prompt and very professional. We had damage to our gutters from strong wind gusts. David sent a handy man the same day we called, they repaired the damage quickly, and it was excellent work! Highly reliable!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Instead of a set number of types, asphalt comes in variations designed for different needs. Some are categorized by temperature—hot mix, warm mix, and cold mix. Others are sorted by composition, like dense-graded, gap-graded (such as Stone Matrix Asphalt), porous, and mastic asphalt. There are also modified versions with added compounds like polymers, rubber, or emulsions. Instead of focusing on a number, it may be more useful to understand how contractors customize asphalt for durability, climate, and traffic conditions.

By grading and compacting the base soil, ensuring proper drainage and stability.

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.

When hiring an asphalt paving contractor to install your driveway, ask as many questions up front as possible. Here are a few questions to ask a prospective driveway contractor:

  • How many years of experience do you have?

  • Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

  • Do you have worker’s compensation?

  • Do you use subcontractors on your projects?

  • Do you clean up after the job is done?

  • Who is responsible for any damage to lawn or landscaping?

  • Do you provide a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • Do you give free estimates?

  • What is the timeline for completion?

  • How do you handle change orders?

  • Can you provide at least three references?

  • Can I see some of the work you’ve done?

Recycled asphalt is not better than gravel, but can be a good alternative. It is inexpensive, but not as low-cost as gravel, and doesn’t tend to last as long. Recycled asphalt isn’t as dusty as gravel and is more environmentally friendly. The black look can be something that homeowners prefer. No matter what, ensure you choose an experienced recycled asphalt contractor.
