"Update to my post on 8/13/18: Following our complaints posted on Angie’s list, Silverio quickly contacted me and offered to come by and take a look. After their walk-through, we both realized that the issues around the driveway is actually not the driveway itself but the excessive water from the lawn was not properly drained and some of the excessive water remained on the driveway and damaged the driveway. We followed their advice and installed the drainage but Joe and crew are so nice and offered to patch the damaged driveway even though the fault was on our side. We are very happy with their quick response and professionalism as well as the high integrity."

Customers say: Quality work

"Louie and his team were great. He and his wife were always prompt in communicating with us. The driveway and drainage work turned out great. I received a lot of compliments on my driveway from my neighbors. Louie even demolished a brick retaining wall that was collapsing at no additional cost. I would highly recommend P&M Paving."

"Excellent communication and very responsive. Also very considerate, including wearing booties in the house to avoid additional footprints on our floors. We would be happy to do business with The Cleaners and Builders LLC again in the future."

"Brilliant! Arnold solved a leaking chimney problem that had others baffled. He also installed a beautiful new driveway that really blends in with the look of my older house. I have worked with Arnold in the past and will continue to work with him in the future. A true professional, as always."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

When hiring pros for asphalt paving in Newtown, CT, verify they have experience with local conditions like glacial till soil and harsh winters. Confirm they carry at least $500,000 in liability insurance and have workers' compensation. It's also wise to ask for references from recent projects in the Fairfield County area and check their complaint history with the Newtown Building Department to ensure a good reputation.

Helpful?

For asphalt paving projects in CT, it's best to use a Superpave mix with a PG 64-22 binder, designed for the state's temperature extremes. The base should consist of an 8- to 12-inch layer of dense graded aggregate to withstand freeze-thaw cycles. On properties with soft subgrade soil, which is common in the region, using a geotextile fabric is also highly recommended for stability.

Helpful?

When comparing quotes for asphalt paving in Newtown, watch for red flags like bids more than 30% lower than others or demands for large upfront payments, as Connecticut law limits deposits. A vague contract without a clear drainage plan or specific material details is another warning sign. Also, be wary of contractors who are unfamiliar with local requirements, such as preparing for the 42-inch frost line.

Helpful?

During an asphalt paving project in Newtown, professionals will closely evaluate drainage, ensuring a minimum 2% slope to manage water runoff effectively. They also assess the subgrade, considering Connecticut's 42-inch frost line and the presence of ledge rock, which is common in the area. Proximity to regulated wetlands and existing utility locations are also key factors that require careful planning and coordination for a successful project.

Helpful?

In Newtown, CT, extensive alligator cracking covering over 25% of the surface or signs of base failure like settling indicate you need a full repaving. These issues are often caused by local freeze-thaw cycles. However, minor problems such as linear cracks less than a quarter-inch wide or small, isolated potholes can typically be addressed with simpler repairs like crack sealing instead of a complete replacement.
