"Norbert and Adam are wonderful to work with. At a time when it’s difficult to find contractors who do what they say they’ll do, Norbert stands out… he and his crew are a joy rather than the typical headache! And their work—it’s just beautiful. Referred to us by a trusted friend (who also has a review here), we saw the quality of his work and hired them for a shed foundation with paver trim. We were so happy we hired him again to redesign our house’s front entry stairs, and stamp our front walkway, driveway lamp posts, and house foundation. It came out better than we could have hoped and enhanced the curb appeal of our house tremendously. Next, we wanted to raise a stone wall to help hide a home generator we had installed. This is where Norbert really excelled. He knew that we needed to reinforce the wall to support the generator… and he was right! They built a new one out of concrete, with french drains, to both support and hide it. As soon as we finished that, we planned our next project… a new stamped concrete driveway to replace our old asphalt one. They just finished it last week and it’s a WOW! To maintain their strength, asphalt driveways and parking lots need to be sealcoated once every two to five years. You may also need to reapply paint striping every few years as it fades to ensure drivers can safely navigate the parking lot.

Yes, you can seal asphalt before it’s fully cured but you should wait to do so until at least three months after installing it. Otherwise, the seal coat can trap the asphalt’s oils and chemicals, preventing it from fully hardening. This can lead to a weaker surface that’s vulnerable to damage. But if you wait at least three months, applying a seal coat can extend its life by protecting it from water, UV rays, and other damaging elements.

We don’t recommend sealing brand-new asphalt; instead, wait for at least three months so that the asphalt has some time to cure. If it’s applied too soon, the seal coat can trap oils and chemicals in the asphalt, preventing it from fully curing and leading to a weaker surface that’s susceptible to damage. 

Depending on the product used, you should avoid using your driveway for 48 to 72 hours after sealing it. In general, water-based driveway sealers cure much faster compared to oil-based and solvent-based sealers. Some driveways are even ready in just four to five hours.
