"In renovating our beach cottage in Warwick, RI we found the roof needed structural work. Building inspector required a structural engineered plan. Adam was easy to communicate with. He was timely with his plan and follow up inspection. He was also available by text and phone for questions during the project. He was great to work with!"

"Rob came over and looked at the concern that i had with an existing structure. He assured me that it was structurally sound and if things change to give him a call. Unlike some contractors i have dealt with in the past it wasnt about making a buck but giving an honest assestmant of the situation. Without doubt i would recommend Rob to anyone looking for a top flight structural engineer."

"After hurricane sandy in 2012 a lot of people in Brooklyn and  Long Island got flooded a lot of home owners received flood damages or  lost their property due to Hurricane Sandy... I am living on Cony Island Seagate  area at that time I was home with my Family and how a remember the water came up to my house and flooded my basement and first floor of my house... I was very scared and desperate.... We basically lost everything at the first and basement floor...
We have received some help from FEMA like every homeowner in that area  but the rest was huge loss from our pockets...
We found structureline based on recommendations and we started to do renovation...Nicholas the General Manager helped us out to apply for a small loan so we could begin the  renovation...We needed to do a complete  house renovation ....
They took off the walls  in the basement and 1st floor, they did mold disinfection, replaced all drywall's, wiring, boiler, windows, doors, siding etc..
They did remodeling on the master bathroom from the first floor and kitchen, they did a wonderful job...We love their new engineered Hardwood floor and the new design of the bathroom with the big bathtub and shower cabinet ... The price we spend ed was a little higher than we were   expected because we did some design work in the living room and Kitchen but for sure it worth it....If Someone will ask me for a recommendation for sure I will recommend Structureline because they helped me out at that time ....Thanks"

"Mike was very easy to work with. I supplied a plan for the backyard and he was very helpful in making suggestions and completing the project just the way we envisioned it. The backyard was all grass with horrible wood stairs and now it's our perfect oasis. The patio is now approximately 25' x 30' and provides ample space for us and our guests. The stone work is beautiful. His workers worked very hard in the blazing heat last summer, but got the job done in a very timely manner. Their prep and cleanup was excellent. During the project, Mike was very responsive with any questions or concerns we had and would always make the effort to come by when asked. We are very pleased with all of the work and would recommend Masonry Enforcement to anyone."

"The contractor is very good.  They are very punctual.  They provided the engineering drawings for the township, provided a detailed plan to replace the bowing wall, and the pinning of two other walls for structural support and the basement entrance.  They also provided support for a high water table issue
The crew was one of the best I have ever seen.  They came, worked extremely hard and completed the job on time and as the building inspector said," a stellar job".
They covered all objects in the basement to minimize the dust, and moved the washer and dryer, reconnecting them in their new locations.

"Don, the owner of BDW LLC, is an extremely knowledge person with a tremendous amount of experience and conscientiousness. He has a high amount energy level, he works hard and does things the right way. He is also very good are figuring out what the problem is and how to fix it.
He also has very good people working for him and they know what they are doing too.
While BDW is not inexpensive, his prices are fair for the work performed. For the money you will pay, you can be assured that Don will do things in such a way that you will not have to have it redone. His work will last. I can not say that is true of many of the other contractors that we have used in the past.
I would not at all hesitate to recommend Don to my friends and relatives. He is first class and does first class work. I assure you that you will not be disappointed. The work will be done correctly and will last !

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

Many horizontal cracks in home foundations result from water and soil pressure from outside of the building or from a footing that is shifting. Under those circumstances, horizontal cracks are a structural problem that requires repair before they become worse and more difficult to fix. However, in very specific cases, thin horizontal cracks may simply be a cosmetic blemish due to concrete shrinkage.

A freestanding brick wall that's only one brick thick can usually stand six to eight feet high. If you need a higher wall, it should be at least two bricks thick for adequate stability, and it might require a footing to support the added weight. Additionally, some areas have regulations and codes dictating how high a brick wall can be, so check with local code enforcers to ensure your proposed wall complies with any regulations.

It's safe to assume that all exterior walls are load-bearing, or at least have load-bearing characteristics. Some older homes feature porches or bump-outs that don't rest on the home's foundation. However, they still must carry the weight of the roof section they support. Walls containing floor-to-ceiling glass or other non-structural elements must use post and beam configurations to meet load-bearing criteria.

Yes, water damage can affect your walls' structural integrity. If the water or moisture sits on the walls for an extended period, it can weaken the drywall, plaster, wood framing, and other materials supporting the wall. That's why it's critical to dry out the area as soon as you notice it.
