"He is extremely attentive to your needs . What he says will happen , does! He keeps all appointments and thoroughly explains what he plans to do. He is one of the most reliable, ethical , conscience businessman I have ever dealt with. I have recommended him to friends . He actually went out of his way to help Ill friends deal with their generator problems even though he had not installed it. He made arrangements for someone to fix the generator when he was not able. Highly recommended !"

"Jeremy is an incredibly efficient, kind, and hugely capable electrician. He spent the day at our house with his helpers installing a generator, and he dealt with every single problem that came up cheerfully and efficiently. I would highly recommend him to anyone for any size job. He makes himself available for any problems and is just overall a terrific person, who is extremely good at what does."

"We first called Cawiamca to see if they could repair our old split system. The guys cane out the same day. Unfortunately, the old system is was quite obsolete and it just wasn't worth repairing. Ron got us a quote on a new system immediately. Within a few days we had a whole new system installed! Price was reasonable, the guys all were pleasant and professional. We are way more than pleased with the outcome! And we wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cawiamca to anyone!"

"The electrician Kyle was professional , honest and affordable. He was punctual and courteous. I hired him for the wiring and panel upgrade but I requested he change my six GFCI outlets and check the older outlets. He checked the outlets that I was worried about -they were good. He did need to replace a different inside outlet and 2 of the 4 outside outlets. He was kind and explained why they needed to be replaced. One just was no longer working. The other 2 were not up to code actually were a fire hazard. I am female senior citizen grateful I hired Elevate Electric."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Generally, you’ll want to keep between 60 and 70 feet between the generator and the transfer switch. There are a few reasons for this, including:

  • The distance reduces the noise coming from the generator into your home.

  • It increases efficiency because you won’t have a voltage drop from this short of a distance.

  • Prevents carbon monoxide poisoning: keep at least 15 feet between your generator and an open window.

No, you should never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet in your house. This practice is extremely dangerous, often illegal, and can cause "back-feeding," where power from the generator flows back into utility lines, creating a life-threatening hazard for utility workers. It can also damage your home's electrical system, including appliances like pumps and HVAC fans. If the main power is restored while the generator is connected, it can destroy the generator and cause an electrical fire. To safely connect a generator, you must use a professionally installed transfer switch or an interlocking kit, which prevents back-feeding by disconnecting your home from the utility grid before the generator provides power.

Natural gas and electricity rates vary significantly based on location, and pricing can change over time, too. It’s possible that in locations where natural gas is particularly inexpensive, it will cost less than grid-based electricity will. However, you should also factor in the generator’s initial costs and maintenance needs, as well as its noise level and if it can comfortably power all your home appliances.

Most homeowners won't be able to claim a home generator as a tax write-off. However, a whole-house generator may be tax-deductible in certain situations depending on its purpose. For instance, if it's needed to power essential medical equipment, it may qualify as a medical expense deduction. Also, in some cases, businesses can deduct a generator as a business expense if it supports operations. Always consult a tax professional to determine eligibility based on your specific circumstances and the applicable IRS regulations.

Yes, natural gas generators can work without electricity. Natural gas generators are a common type of backup or whole-house generator that operates when the electrical grid isn’t working. The trick is using a transfer switch (which usually needs to be installed with the generator) that safely switches the home electrical system from the power grid to generator power when needed.
