Afterward, blot the area with a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water. Another method combines the ingredients on the stain to create a foaming reaction that helps lift it. To do this, pour a generous layer of dry baking soda over the stain. Then, in a spray bottle, mix distilled white vinegar with warm water and a few drops of dish soap, and spray this solution over the baking soda. Let the mixture sit for several hours until dry, then wipe or vacuum up the residue and blot the area with a clean towel. You can repeat the process if the stain persists.

It takes 24 to 72 hours for water to evaporate out of the carpet if you use a wet vac and towels to soak up the majority of the moisture and then run blower fans and dehumidifiers to speed up the evaporation process. The total length of time for the water to evaporate out of the carpet depends on how wet the carpet is, the type of carpet, and the thickness of the carpet.

It’s best to avoid using furniture polish, any oil-based cleaners, varnish, ammonia, and cleaning solvents. Other harmful materials include chemicals like acetone or alcohol, which can cause severe damage to your couch.
