"The contractor we hired to do the work went out of business without telling us and we were stuck. Brian to the rescue. Even though our roof was much steeper than he usually works on he agreed to replace the glass in our three skylights. He did an excellent job and I couldn't be more thrilled. He prepped the roof one day and finished the job the next. It is a real treat to be able to see through our skylights again. Thank you Brian."

"They stood head and shoulders over other contractors from start to finish. My roof looks beautiful and since I watched the entire install that day along with their project manager, I know it was a great job. Attention to detail, cleanup, courtesy - the whole package."

"Shaun, the owner of this locally owned business, came over with one of his workers, Evert. Evert went up on the roof and sent pics down to Shaun. Shaun and I sat down and went over everything that was going on with the roof so i could understand what was going on. He even had Evert go up in the attic to take a look around. He sat with me and discussed what the plan was! This man is professional and clearly knows what the roofing business. Excellent business man! He and two workers, Evert and Walter, showed up when they said they would and got right to work!!! After the job was completed, once again, pics were sent from top the roof to Shaun so i would see what a professional job they did. I have peace of mind!!!! I highly recommend you call SJM Roofing because they are EXPERTS!!!!"

"James was excellent and offered me a good deal. He was scheduled to start the job at 9am but was running late and called to say so. So many don't call, they just show up whenever. He replaced the missing and damaged shingles, power washed the garage roof, closed up entrances where squirrels were getting in my house and cleaned up nicely. I highly recommend him."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

While you can technically install TPO roofing over an existing roof, it isn't always wise to do so. The more layers of material you add to your roof, the more weight it must support. You may also develop moisture issues by covering your existing roof with TPO. Your local building codes and regulations may actually require you to remove the existing roof before adding TPO, so check with your local municipality.

Using an ice and water shield underlayment under a metal roof is a good way to protect the roof and your home from damage in colder climates that see a lot of winter weather. Traditional underlayment isn’t effective underneath a metal roof, though, so be sure to install one specifically made for metal roofs to get the best protection.

If your roof has a vapor barrier, you will need approximately one square foot of roof vent for every 300 square feet of ceiling space. If there is no vapor barrier, the roof should have one square foot of roof vent for every 150 square feet of ceiling space. If you are not comfortable making this determination, a local roofing professional can help.

The formula for calculating how many squares of roofing you need is pretty easy. Take the total amount of square footage and divide it by 100. With this formula in mind, a 2,000-square-foot roof would require 20 squares of roofing material to adequately cover it.

The length of time you can leave a leaking roof before it causes damage will vary greatly depending on a variety of factors. The best approach when it comes to roof leaks is to play it safe and fix it as soon as possible, whether you take the DIY route or hire a roofing professional to inspect, diagnose, and repair the problem.
