"The contractor we hired to do the work went out of business without telling us and we were stuck. Brian to the rescue. Even though our roof was much steeper than he usually works on he agreed to replace the glass in our three skylights. He did an excellent job and I couldn't be more thrilled. He prepped the roof one day and finished the job the next. It is a real treat to be able to see through our skylights again. Thank you Brian."

"They stood head and shoulders over other contractors from start to finish. My roof looks beautiful and since I watched the entire install that day along with their project manager, I know it was a great job. Attention to detail, cleanup, courtesy - the whole package."

"our roof starting leaking very bad after the recent Ice and snow storm we had in NJ , Overstate was quick and came to my house within less then an hour . They found the leak in less then 10 minutes , scheduled the work to be open on the following day and fixed the leak . I will definitely hire them to come and do my full roof in the summer . "3 Son’s Siding & Gutters LLC did my roof about four months ago. They came and gave me a price that was more than fair…3 Son’s were very professional, work very safely. They stripped two layers, found that they had to get plywood and replace the whole roof, it was a bit more but they did the plywood, re-shingled the roof in the one day.i was very impressed with the way all the workers did what needed to be done. The job was done in a day and a half, all the mess was picked up went around the house with magnets picking up all the nails. All I can say I believe they are very professional, very concerned about how my property was left I think it was cleaner than when they started.Very good crew did a great job couldn’t be any happier. Great crew very professional!!!! Thanks for all your hard work.Al Couture Southwick Mass."

"James was excellent and offered me a good deal. He was scheduled to start the job at 9am but was running late and called to say so. So many don't call, they just show up whenever. He replaced the missing and damaged shingles, power washed the garage roof, closed up entrances where squirrels were getting in my house and cleaned up nicely. I highly recommend him."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

You can negotiate roofing payment terms with a contractor, but if you’re working with a reliable, trustworthy roofing contractor, the quote they gave you is probably fair. It’s often not worth haggling over the cost of the job unless you feel it is particularly unfair. If you do, get quotes from other roofing companies to compare prices.

The most obvious and severe sign of a roof leak is the presence of wet spots on your ceilings, specifically on the top floor of your home. You can also identify a roof leak from your attic if you see sagging insulation or if you notice mold growth or water stains on the rafters or the underside of the roof deck. From the street, look for cracked or missing shingles, moss growth, and shingles that are curling upward, all of which can suggest a leak.

No, you can’t use your home’s square footage. You have to calculate your roof’s square footage, and then you may have to convert your square footage measurement to correspond with how the roofing material is measured. For instance, some roofing is sold in “squares,” which equals the total square footage of the roof divided by 100. Shingles are sold in bundles that may not correspond to the number of squares you need. Metal roofing is sold as sheets, so determine the amount of square feet each panel will cover and then divide the total square footage by the coverage area.

Asphalt shingles have varying thicknesses across the length, so failing to stagger shingles from one row to the next will leave you with bulges and bumps if the thicker sections stack on top of each other. Not only is this unappealing, but it increases the risk of water intrusion. Stagger each new row by 6 inches to avoid this issue.

When it comes to choosing the best roof color for a blue exterior, you have plenty of options. For a classic neutral look, go with a light gray, dark gray, or black roof. Blend gray tones if you want a more eye-catching look for your roof, or go for a different splash of color with a green or even red. Take inspiration from your neighbors if you want your house to fit in on the block.
