"I had Ray Soto and CT Gutter Shutter install new gutters and downspouts on my Colonial in the Fall of 2021. I waited this long to leave a review because I wanted to see how the gutters held up, to ensure nothing was leaking, and to see how effective their leaf guard system was. I can say now, with absolute certainty, that this was the best decision I could have made. I initially contacted five companies to assess my house and give me quotes. I chose Ray because of (at least) seven reasons: First, his materials were equal or better than those presented to me by the other companies. Second, he only installed 3â x 4â downspouts, whereas the other companies installed these as an upgrade to their normal 2â x 3â downspouts. Third, the leaf protection system he installs on top of the gutters seemed more effective than any other type I found, even the heavily advertised ones. Fourth, Rayâ s price for replacing rotting fascia boards and soffits was far lower than any other company, which charged an average of $10 per foot of replacement. Fifth, Ray was the only one of the five who took the time to look at the whole house, tell me what he was going to install, how he was going to do it and why, and also make suggestions about fixing or improving other things which he could cost effectively do while he was working on my house. Sixth, he was the only company where he would be onsite for the entire job, supervising his team. With the other companies I only met with a salespersons or owners who basically only did estimates but was not physically on the job. And seventh, his price was lower than the other four estimates! Ray suggested that I have him install vents in the soffits around the entire house, install chimney caps, and replace an outside vent to one of the bathroom fans. I had him do all of these things, and at a very reasonable price. Ray worked with a team of extremely competent, permanent workers (not contractors) and all I could say is that this team, led by Ray was as good as it gets. Having this gutter system installed now for almost a year, I can say that there hasnâ t been a single issue. No leaks whatsoever and the leaf system has been working like a charm. Most companies warrant their leaf systems against clogging, meaning that the gutters wonâ t clog. But for most systems you still need to hose off the leaves and debris that accumulate on the surface of the leaf protection system, and if you have a two story house, youâ re likely not going to be able to do this by yourself. Absolutely nothing sticks to or stays on the Gutter Shutter system, and so no additional cleaning or hosing down appears necessary. Ray and CT Gutter Shutter is the ultimate in house contractors. Besides being incredibly competent, Ray is also one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure to deal with. Hiring Ray and CT Gutter Shutter was one of the best decisions I have ever made as a home owner."

Gutter Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Properly installed gutters should be able to function normally in heavy rains. Allowing water to overflow can cause water damage around your home's basement or foundation. If the overflow is caused by a simple clog, paying a gutter cleaning cost of $125 to $250 may be enough to get the gutters running clear again. If there's a larger issue, you may need to repair or replace your gutters.

Buried downspouts can freeze during cold weather as cold water runs through them. If you’ve discovered your downspouts are frozen, you can carefully pour hot water down the top of the downspout to defrost them. If that doesn’t work, you may need to dig your downspout back up. Avoid trying to break the ice from the exterior using a hammer as this can cause cracks and damage to your downspout.

To avoid freezing the future, consider adding a heating cable to the exterior, which can adjust heat based on the surrounding temperature.

While you can clean your gutters without geting on a ladder, you won't know just how well you're cleaning them without the use of a telescopic water pole. Some ways to clean gutters from the ground include using telescopic cleaning tools and a leaf blower extension, wet/dry vacuum extension, pressure washer, or garden hose with a curved end.

Regular cleaning, applying rust-resistant coatings, and checking for leaks help extend their lifespan.

At least twice a year, or more if surrounded by trees.
