"Ken is fantastic. He did built-in shelves and cabinets around my fireplace. Reasonable quote, project completed well, on time and clear communication throughout. Definitely recommend him and actually already working with him on another project!"

"I hired Adam and his team to frame and install my new kitchen including framing out a new pantry in a very difficult space as well as install a slider and reconfigure some walls. I am so pleased with the result. His attention to detail and work ethic are a rare find. I would recommend anyone needing any carpentry, framing, windows and doors work to contact him, you will not be disappointed."

"We were very pleased with the service, attention to detail and cost of our home pre-marketing project. John Atallah and his team removed popcorn ceilings, repaired any cracks/defects, painted ceilings & walls & screened/polyurethaned our floors. The process took about a week and a half. So well done, weâ re having 2nd thoughts about selling! ð We wholeheartedly endorse Johnâ s Final Touch & will use them again in our new home."

"Lindsay and Jimmy just finished refinishing our kitchen cabinets. They did a beautiful job and were a pleasure to work with and are both charming and good-hearted. They arrived when they said they would on day 1, and finished on time on day 7 (lots of cabinets). The kitchen looks beautiful, refreshed, and I wish I had other projects to give to them. We obtained multiple bids and Lindsay's was by far the most reasonable. We couldn't be happier with the results."

Closets questions, answered by experts

Fortunately, there are no hard and fast rules or regulations regarding the height of closet shelving. However, the typical height for a single closet shelf with a hanging bar is 70 inches from the floor. For a double-hanging system, use 84 to 85 inches from the floor for the top one and 42 inches for the lower.

Whether it’s less expensive to build or buy a closet depends on both the type of closet and whether or not you’d be constructing it yourself. The cost of custom closets built by a pro ranges from $1,300 to $3,800, but you may be able to DIY it for as little as $400. By contrast, prefabricated options go as low as $200 and up to $3,000, so it’s almost always less expensive to go this route.

Adding a mudroom is one of the most budget-friendly home additions compared to other projects, costing between $8,000 and $16,000 on average. Not only is the room often quite small, but it also requires minimal fixtures or wiring to make the room practical. The most costly features include a weatherproof floor and an exterior door.

A "reach-in pantry" is a smaller, cabinet-style pantry that allows you to grab items by simply reaching inside. On the other hand, a "walk-in pantry" is like a closet or small room that offers a larger space that you can physically enter to get your food. Walk-in pantries allow for more customizable shelving. A reach-in pantry is usually around 5 feet wide by 2 feet deep, while a walk-in pantry is closer to 5 feet by 5 feet or larger.

To prevent sagging, consider both the material and the span of the shelf. Using sturdy materials such as plywood or solid wood can provide better support than particleboard. Additionally, limiting the shelf span to 36 inches or less can reduce the risk of sagging. For longer shelves, incorporating center supports or brackets can offer additional reinforcement.
