Hi, my name is Nate and I am a third generation contractor! I have had my own business for 15 years and specialize in New England residential construction. From excavating basements, to roofing ridge cap there's not much I have not worked on. However, my preference for work includes interior and exterior painting (and associated skills such as pressure washing and wallpaper removal) as well as more unique projects such as constructing Tipi's, Sweat Lodges and Custom Earthships. Integrity, hard work and fairness are the values I built my reputation on. I have never had a complaint, or issue from a client and all my records prove it. Furthermore, I pride myself on going above and beyond for my clients and the environment. Consulting on green solutions for your home and recycling deconstructed material from projects including carpet, sheetrock, plastics, wood and roofing shingles are some of the ways I try to help the planet and the coming generations. These solutions to projects are not only green for the environment, but also for your wallet as many solutions provide tremendous savings over the lifetime of your investment. Solutions may include insulating water pipes and constructing rain gardens in areas of your lawn near your home that flood and compromise the integrity of the foundation. They may also include eco-friendly protective coatings applied to vinyl siding after a power wash, or to a roof to prevent future staining and mold. While I was studying at the University of Connecticut for my BA, I learned how important sustainability, recycling and responsible consumption is for our planet. I soon began to bridge the gap between this lesson and my background in construction. I'm confident one free consultation will prove my education within my field and creativity to help keep your home running smooth, clean and green. Reach me at (860) 816-4057

Awnings questions, answered by experts

To make sure the installation process goes smoothly, try asking your pro the following questions:

  • Do you have insurance and a professional license to do the job? Installing a metal or canvas awning into a home’s exterior can be tricky, so ask your pro if they have the correct licensing and insurance to do the work.

  • What was the price of similar jobs in the past? Awning installation costs will vary depending on size, design, location, and other factors. Ask this question to get a feel for the average price range for jobs similar to yours.

  • How long will this project take to complete? Installing an awning is typically not too time-consuming, but hurdles can always present themselves. Gathering an estimated timeline could give you some peace of mind.

  • Will I need to get a building permit? Your local contractor will be well-versed in rules and regulations regarding building permits and other requirements to bring a project up to code. A seasoned pro will be able to furnish this information when discussing the quote.

  • Do you have any references from previous clients? A competent pro should readily hand out contact information for previous clients. Email or call these clients to hear about their overall experience.

You can indeed open your awning in winter. It’s a misconception that you can only open retractable awnings in the warmer months. In fact, modern awnings are strong enough to offer a little respite from the snow if you’re someone who enjoys sipping hot cocoa outside on a beautiful winter day. But if a big storm is coming, such as a hurricane or a blizzard, it’s best to close your awning until the weather calms down.

Metal awnings last much longer than fabric thanks to their durability and resistance to fading, sun damage, and damage from the outside elements. They also need less maintenance than fabric options. Both items add curb appeal to your home, but you shouldn't expect either type of awning to add property value to your home.

The longest-lasting awning materials include vinyl, polycarbonate, and polyester for their durability and cleanability. Other materials like canvas and metal can last a long time, but may wear out faster. The key to getting the longest life from your awning material is to maintain it properly by cleaning yearly, keeping debris from gathering on it, and protecting it during stormy weather or high winds by retracting it or moving it to a protected area.

Yes, most awnings include warranties for materials and installation. Confirm terms before purchasing.
