Small jobs welcome

"Juliano was very responsive and receptive of ideas I had for the project. The work done turned out the way I wanted and was able to do it within my price range. The only thing I would say needs improvement is the cleanup afterwards. There was more saw dust leftover than I anticipated. Regardless, I would recommend and would hire again for further projects."

Customers say: Quick response

"I've hired lots of contractors and home service providers over the years, but I've never had one work as hard as Jeffrey! I hired him to replace ten 12' tennis fence poles along with the accompanying top rails. Jeff busted his butt digging out the existing poles which were set in concrete, and then made sure each new pole was set in a 24" hole. He had minimal help from a laborer. Did most of the hard work himself. He was onsite every morning by 7:30am at the latest and gave a solid 8 hour+ day every day until the project was done. Jeff provided receipts for all materials purchased (how often does that happen?). His pricing was exceptionally fair given the effort and end result, which was excellent. Honest, friendly, hardworking, and a great completed job at the end . What else can ya ask for? Bravo Jeff!"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

The proper height for a stair riser or deck step is between four and seven inches, with seven inches often considered the most comfortable. Building your stairs to this height ensures a strain-free step position and minimizes the risk of trip and fall injuries. For optimal safety and comfort, especially on deck stairs, a rise of around seven inches should be paired with a tread depth (or run) of at least 10 to 12 inches. While it is possible to design stairs with risers up to 12 inches, this height can be challenging for children, pets, or individuals with mobility issues. Always check with your local building codes, as they may mandate specific dimensions that differ from these general recommendations.

The choice between Trex, a brand of composite decking, and PVC decking depends on your priorities regarding budget, appearance, and environmental impact. Both materials are durable and resistant to moisture and insects. Trex is often considered more eco-friendly because it contains recycled wood and plastic and is 25% recyclable, while PVC is fully synthetic and harder to recycle. Aesthetically, Trex is designed to look more like real wood, whereas PVC often has a glossier, more plastic-like finish. In terms of cost, Trex is typically less expensive than PVC.

It is possible to pressure wash your deck, but it’s usually best to leave the work to a professional for two main reasons. First, power washers are expensive, and you can avoid high upfront costs by hiring a deck washing pro instead. Second, you must be careful to use the correct setting to avoid damaging your deck material. You can only clean soft woods like pine with a wide spray and a low pressure; otherwise, the water will leave unpleasant marks on your deck. Hard woods, composite material, and metal can stand up to increasingly higher water pressures.

While you can use various materials like sand or even just soil, gravel is widely considered the best option to put under a deck. It provides excellent drainage and is resistant to water, fire, and pests. Gravel also helps anchor the soil to prevent erosion during heavy rain and acts as a built-in weed blocker, reducing regular upkeep. Furthermore, it is simple to spread, available in various textures and tones, and adds a polished look that complements any deck design.

Generally, a patio is more accessible than a standard deck because patios are constructed at ground level. However, decks can be made accessible by adding a wheelchair-accessible ramp, a vertical lift, or a stair lift along the entry. An ADA-compliant deck ramp costs about $3,000 on average. The additional investment will provide a much friendlier experience for your guests with movement impairments.
