"Tree man is absolutely the best tree service we have ever had. We spoke to Oscar and he came the next day with his very professional crew of six. He removed two big fallen trees from the storm, and his arborist pointed out several others which were dangerous, which they also removed. We asked if they could take down two other trees, which were so close to a building I didn’t think they would be able to, but miraculously they came down with no trouble. They were very competent and raked, shoveled and used leaf blowers to make everything picture perfect after putting it all in the wood chipper. I cannot tell you how pleasant they were and how capable. Their price was excellent for all the work they did. I HIGHLY recommend them. Faith Meo, owner. Wolcott"

"Not only did they do a great job cutting the tall trees above my patio and fence with out any damage, they were very personable and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend them and would hire them again if needed in the future. Amazed how skilled they are in what they do. Great company."

"Chris did an great job. He went well beyond what we had initially discussed at no additional cost. He cleaned up a bunch of broken limbs and damaged trees from an ice storm, including a massive dead ash tree, for no additional cost. You would never have known he was here, except for all the missing trees. He has done some work for us in the past, and he’ll continue to be our go-to person for any tree work. We highly recommend Mackenzie Tree."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Dying trees and even dead trees can spread diseases to other living trees. There are many different types of tree diseases, so it’s essential to address the issue as soon as possible to prevent the disease from spreading to other healthy trees. If the tree cannot be saved and is infected, you need to have it removed to protect the other trees on your property.

Cutting down a tree next to power lines is never a DIY job, and it’s a good idea to contact your utility company first. In most cases, the utility company will need to take care of any tree problems within 10 to 15 feet of power lines. If you want to remove the tree for aesthetic reasons, hire a pro to do the job. Trying to cut trees near power lines yourself can create many safety hazards, and you could be liable if you inadvertently cause damage to electrical equipment.

The Christmas tree type that smells the best to you will ultimately depend on personal preference. But if that classic Christmas tree smell is important to you, choosing a type of tree known for its scent is a safe bet. Try a balsam fir for a spicy, comforting scent or a Douglas fir for a sweeter smell. You may also like Fraser firs, Scotch pines, and blue spruces.

Dutch elm disease can’t harm humans. In fact, according to Cal Fire, bark beetles aren’t even typically dangerous to trees unless that tree is already weakened. The problem comes when Dutch elm disease kills a tree. That tree is more at risk of falling and catching fire, which can pose a serious threat.

You may need permission to take a tree down. Check with your local ordinances about rules regarding tree removal and to gain any necessary permits. Check with your local ordinances or the fire department if you plan to burn the stump. Make sure you have all the steps in place before removing the tree, or contact a local tree removal service.
