"Pat replaced our deck, replaced the balusters for the stairs going to our basement, and did some drywall repairs for us. Pat and Mike are professionals in the best sense of the term. From start to finish the work was excellent and well priced. Definitely a five star company and our go to guys in the future."

"Diso design and build did such a phenomenal job on our remodel and redesign of the kitchen. The wife and myself are beyond words for the professionalism, attention to detail and remarkable final product. So much so we had them build a tree house for the grandkids. Highly recommend"

"Two days later, work began promptly by the installer, "Jay" who did an amazing job building and installing the new system. Poor water drainage and damage was a previous issue with the last system and Jay insured that his system was sloped and took the time to show me using his levels and I was impressed and appreciated his gutter fastening system, totally solid. Very satisfied with this crew and highly recommend them."

Install Stair Railings questions, answered by experts

Regular cleaning, polishing, and ensuring no loose fasteners maintain both look and safety.

Yes, carpeted stairs are generally considered safer than stairs with hard surfaces like wood, vinyl, or tile. Carpet provides more traction and friction, which helps reduce the chances of slips and falls. Additionally, if a fall does occur, carpet offers more cushioning, which can lessen the severity of an injury. While hard surfaces can look great, they are often more slippery. However, it's worth noting that some carpets, especially if they are new, dirty, or have a slick texture, can also pose a slipping hazard. To improve safety on any type of stair surface, you can add traction treads to increase grip.

While they sound similar, handrails and guardrails serve different purposes. A handrail is the part of the railing you grip for balance and support while walking up or down stairs. A guardrail, on the other hand, is a safety barrier designed to prevent falls from elevated platforms such as balconies, decks, or stair landings. A single rail system may serve both functions in some staircases, but code requirements can differ for each.

Yes, professionals will offer tailored solutions to fit architectural and personal style preferences.

Most building codes require that spindles or balusters on deck and stair railings be spaced no more than four inches apart. This safety standard, often called the '4-inch sphere rule,' is designed to prevent small children or pets from slipping through the railing. A good way to visualize this is that a 4-inch sphere should not be able to pass between two spindles. For the same safety reason, the space between the bottom rail and the deck floor should also be no more than four inches. As a general guideline, professionals often install three balusters per foot of railing. However, since specific requirements can vary by location, it is crucial to check your local building codes to ensure compliance before starting your project.
