"We contacted Voltaire Engineering, Mr. Dan Rosenbaum, when we were preparing for a major remodel of our house.
It started with an energy audit but that was by far not where it ended.
After installing a new foam insulation in the roof/ attic area and exchanging the bedroom windows, we discovered a drastic reduction in our utility bills. Thanks to the advice we took from Voltaire Engineering.
Later in the process of remodeling, Voltaire Engineering did the electrical work and we couldn't have asked for a more engaged contractor. Whenever we discovered something unexpected, and we found plenty, Dan and his team reacted in our interest, showing us options and presented solutions.
Dan's biggest goal was, getting the job done, even if he and his team had to work longer or on the weekend.
If there was something he couldn't do, he sure knew somebody who was able to.
Living in the house during the remodel, as a stay- at- home- mum with a toddler was challenging, but Dan and his work crew did everything to make it as easy on us as possible. There is little privacy, if you remodel all your bathrooms, people are running through the whole house, and it helps to see, that they treat your belongings (and your dog) like you would. It helps, that you get called in advance to get a heads up, that they clean up after work is done, that nobody is yelling and screaming through the house, that you were treated with respect.
We recommend Voltaire Engineering, whenever we get an opportunity, and we hope this review helps you, as a future customer, to feel confident.
If you pick Dan Rosenbaum, you will be picking a good one."

"It went great. The initial price was a bit steep, but since I had other quotes, they were willing to negotiate. I dealt with Anthony as the project manager and Kevin and Ryan, who did the work. These guys were professional, always showed up early and they did a great job. Even when I goofed up a measurement on where I wanted a ceiling light placed; they fixed it at no cost. I couldn't be happier with the work they did. I had a full kitchen remodel as well as troubleshooting multiple 3-way lights in the house that were incorrectly wired."

"i was very impressed with the professionalism of the assessment and the comprehensiveness of the report. As followup they came and discussed the report and explained any questions. I submitted the report to the Governors Energy Office (GEO) for partial reimbursement (rebate) and will personally address air infiltration and other problem areas noted in the report. I would highly recommend Voltaire for home energy audits."

"The blower motor on our +30 year old Carrier gas furnace quit working on a Sunday night which also happened to be one of the coldest nights of the year. After a quick Google search, we called Edge Heating for help. Tony came out within two hours, discovered the problem, let us know our options and loaned us two electric heaters to get us through until he could get the furnace working again. A new motor was ordered the following morning and installed the next day as soon as it arrived from Denver. We appreciated the quick response time, honesty, good communication, reasonable rates and our furnace got fixed. Definitely recommend them."

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

A blower door test shouldn’t take more than an hour, and most can be completed in less than 30 minutes. Expect the test to take longer once you start searching for leaks with thermal imaging or want to include sealing such leaks in the time estimate. The test doesn’t take much time and can’t be rushed, but it will take longer in large homes or those with many air leaks.

To find a reputable home energy auditor, start by researching local companies that offer the service and check their reviews, methods, and certifications. The most reputable professionals are often Home Energy Professional (HEP)-certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI). You can also consult the Department of Energy’s certified list of energy auditors or use a state licensing tool to review local guidelines and ensure you are hiring a certified professional for your area.

When installing a new furnace, it's a good time to consider other projects that can enhance your home's energy efficiency. A great first step is to get a home energy audit, which will identify areas for improvement. Common recommendations include sealing or replacing windows and adding insulation to the attic. These upgrades can help you save money on monthly utility costs. You might also consider installing a smart thermostat to make heating your home more convenient and efficient.

If you want a new boiler that’s going to help lower your fuel bills, you should buy one that has a high energy-efficiency rating. For example, a boiler that is rated “A” uses at least 90% of the energy created by the boiler. And in order to enjoy the best performance, it’s important to have it installed properly by a highly-rated tech.

There is no blanket figure for a residential home’s electrical load, since load varies by the size of the home, how many appliances are used, and the efficiency of their electrical systems. Typically, however, it’s safe to assume 40 to 60 amps is the average electrical load of a residential home.
