"Project: Home Energy Audit Darrell's expertise showed from the start and definitely invited participation in this Energy Audit. He provided me with another thermal device so I can see what he was seeing/explaining going through each room in the house. A professional report was provided to me in a timely manner."

"My husband and I agree: Working with Voltaire Engineering was completely satisfying from beginning to end! All successful experiences start at the top, and this one was no exception. After we purchased a special deal through Angie's List, Director of Operations Dan Rosenbaum contacted us promptly and set up an appointment to visit our home. We instantly liked him; he is witty, smart and easy to talk to and just instinctively inspires confidence. He helped us to see past the obvious solutions to our various needs, and in each case we were glad we followed his advice. His electrician and painters were fabulous, too. They listened carefully to our needs and completed all tasks with true professionalism. In short, we were thrilled with every aspect of the project, including pricing. True to his company name, Dan is an enlightened professional whose problem solving approach to providing services is impressive. We loved having him and his team in our home. In fact, we have just compiled a list of additional projects and are hopeful that we can hire him again!"

"i was very impressed with the professionalism of the assessment and the comprehensiveness of the report. As followup they came and discussed the report and explained any questions. I submitted the report to the Governors Energy Office (GEO) for partial reimbursement (rebate) and will personally address air infiltration and other problem areas noted in the report. I would highly recommend Voltaire for home energy audits."

"The blower motor on our +30 year old Carrier gas furnace quit working on a Sunday night which also happened to be one of the coldest nights of the year. After a quick Google search, we called Edge Heating for help. Tony came out within two hours, discovered the problem, let us know our options and loaned us two electric heaters to get us through until he could get the furnace working again. A new motor was ordered the following morning and installed the next day as soon as it arrived from Denver. We appreciated the quick response time, honesty, good communication, reasonable rates and our furnace got fixed. Definitely recommend them."

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

Replacing a window frame will improve your home’s energy efficiency if the old frame is cracked or damaged in a way that allows unconditioned air from the outside into your living space or if you upgrade to a more energy-efficient window frame material. Aluminum is the least energy-efficient window frame material, followed by vinyl and wood. Fiberglass and composite frames are the most energy-efficient.

There is no blanket figure for a residential home’s electrical load, since load varies by the size of the home, how many appliances are used, and the efficiency of their electrical systems. Typically, however, it’s safe to assume 40 to 60 amps is the average electrical load of a residential home.

When combined with a substantial solar system, if you have enough Powerwalls, you could go off-grid and be energy independent. But remember, you'd need enough Powerwalls to power your whole home continuously because a single Powerwall can’t power large appliances for extended periods. One Powerwall is able to power an average-sized home's emergency circuits, lights, and outlets. To power large appliances, you likely need two or three Powerwalls.

A whole-house humidifier can positively impact energy consumption by improving heating efficiency. During colder months, humidified air feels warmer, which allows you to lower your thermostat without sacrificing comfort. This adjustment can lead to significant energy savings as your heating system works more efficiently. However, it's important to use the humidifier judiciously, as excessive humidity could potentially strain your cooling system in warmer months.

ENERGY STAR®-certified windows are the most energy-efficient windows on the market. This certification means that the window meets strict efficiency guidelines set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency. While they might cost more upfront, they can save you money on your energy bills in the long run. ENERGY STAR®-certified windows lower household energy bills by an average of 12% annually.
