CHS is a local, veteran-owned licensed electrical contractor that provides full residential electrical services with deep expertise in whole house fans, attic fans and ventilation, sun tunnels and skylights. We have been providing the most environmentally friendly, cost-effective and energy-efficient home cooling and daylighting solutions in Colorado since 2003. We pride ourselves on delivering an un-matched customer service experience. From pricing to install, our team is dedicated to earning your trust and finding the best home cooling and daylighting solutions for your home, no matter what! Offering industry-leading brands and a wide range of products suited for any home, we are Colorado's premier home electrical, cooling and daylighting provider.

"When it comes to home services, CHC sets the bar exceedingly high. They installed a whole house fan that dramatically reduced the amount I need to run my AC. They were on time, professional, and completed the install faster than expected (~3.5 hours). They cleaned up after and took some time to train me on the many ways I could use the fan to save energy and improve comfort in my home, some of which I wouldn't have thought of. In an industry where low expectations seems to be the norm, to say that CHC exceeds expectations is an understatement."

"I called over 7 companies for my Kohler home generator. Less than half replied and no final resolution. So, I contacted this company even though they are 8 hours from my home and weren't available to come, and not only did they reply, they took about 45 minutes to walk me through my entire system remotely and then refused payment! They spent their time and expertise just to help me out of the goodness of their hearts! You don't find companies like this in 2023 anymore - I'd pay twice the going rate just to have the level of service this company provides, very strongly recommend!!"

This Efficient House is an expert residential energy efficiency company. We are approved by every gas and electric utility provider in Northern Colorado to perform any energy-saving improvement that qualifies for a rebate. With your priorities and budget in mind, we achieve the maximum energy-saved-per-dollar-invested. Our average project costs less than $3,000 and we are not a remodeling company. We install air sealing, insulation, heating and cooling equipment, windows, whole house fans, radon mitigation and other retrofits that save money, increase comfort and reduce carbon emissions. Because we are not a "single-trade" contractor we never misdiagnose the source of wasted energy or comfort related issues. We happily handle all rebate processing as well. This Efficient House directly employs our own well-trained BPI (Building Performance Institute) certified building shell crews and NATE (North American Technical Excellence) certified heating and cooling crews. We begin with a home energy audit which uses various diagnostic tests to analyze the efficiency of a house. We can then suggest the most cost effective ways to improve the efficiency of your home, reduce energy usage/utility bills and improve home comfort. The next step is to begin the work. We are a one-stop shop. An important part of our work - and what differentiates us from ordinary construction companies - is that we take a "whole house" approach to improving your home. A house works as an interactive system and changing one element can have a chain reaction of effects throughout the rest of the building. Keeping this in mind while work is being done is important both for the long term durability of your home and for your personal safety and protection from indoor air quality issues such as carbon monoxide and radon. Feel free to contact us with any questions you have or visit our website for more information.

"Mike & This Efficient House have done several jobs for us in the past. Most recently, they did radon mitigation & insulation work in our crawlspace plus in-wall cellulose fill insulation last December. Mike and his crew were punctual, got the job done very efficiently, and were very communicative through the entire process. We have much better peace-of-mind with the radon work done, and the house was much more comfortable through the rest of the winter with the new insulation. Previously they had performed an energy efficiency audit on the house, and managed the replacement of our old hot water heater and furnace with new high-efficiency units better sized for our small house. Good experiences in all cases, and we would definitely work with them again in the future. Highly recommended!"

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

After you receive your audit and report, review the findings and determine which of the prescribed changes you want to make to improve your home’s energy efficiency. Start by contacting the type of professionals recommended by the auditor who can help you remedy the issues discovered during the audit. Prioritize the projects by urgency, importance, and budget. Then, gather estimates from several professionals, remembering to verify any necessary licensing and experience information.

There is no blanket figure for a residential home’s electrical load, since load varies by the size of the home, how many appliances are used, and the efficiency of their electrical systems. Typically, however, it’s safe to assume 40 to 60 amps is the average electrical load of a residential home.

Heat pumps transfer existing heat instead of generating it, using less energy. Compared to baseboard heaters, they can reduce heating costs by up to 50% and provide efficient cooling, lowering electricity bills and carbon footprint.

While installing your new furnace, you should consider hiring a pro to perform a home energy audit . This audit will give you a handy list of any projects you could undertake to improve your home's overall energy efficiency rating, including replacing or sealing windows and insulating the attic. These improvements can help save you money each month in utility costs.

Generator size requirements vary wildly among properties, but typical generator sizes are listed below based on home square footage:

  • 1,000 sq ft: 6–9 kW

  • 1,500 sq ft: 7–10 kW

  • 2,000 sq ft: 10–14kW

  • 2,500 sq ft: 12–16kW

  • 3,000 sq ft: 16–20kW+

Unfortunately, home square footage isn’t always a good indicator of generator size requirements. Instead, you should call in a professional to discuss which items in your home you’d like to run via your generator. They can calculate peak and average consumption for those items and then size your generator appropriately for optimal performance.
