"Once again, Angie's List to the rescue. I have relied upon this service to pick many wonderful service providers for my home, and Afford-A Rooter is not exception. I chose this one because of the "service award" they have earned. They returned my call very promptly, scheduled help far more quickly than I had anticipated. AJ, the plumber, arrived on time and got right to work with his equipment, which, by the way, was a cleaner job than I have had before with other providers. The problem is solved! I am thrilled with Angie's List and will use this provider exclusively in the future. AJ was polite and skilled. Couldn't be more pleased!"

Small jobs welcome

"Marco was the technician that assisted. His expertise and vast knowledge in plumbing has really helped me. Explaining Marco the issue I had he was able to pin point exactly where the failure was happening! He was able to to prevent me from having any further water damage to my house. Marco communicated to me the work that needed to be done and executed in a great timely manner! When he was done it didnâ t even seem if was even there! One of the cleanest work I have seen. Thereâ s good plumbers but Marco is a great plumber with much experience and with a respectful attitude! Marco will continue to be my go to plumber!"

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

It is safe to use a frost-proof or freeze-proof spigot or pump in the winter if you live in an area with freezing temperatures. Otherwise, it's best to fully drain and shut down your outside spigot in the winter to avoid cracking a pipe.

If a bolt at the bottom of your toilet tank is loose, it can directly cause a leak. If a bolt securing the toilet base to the floor is loose, it won’t directly cause a leak but can lead to the same result over time. That’s because the loose bolts will eventually move the wax seal or cause cracks in the bowl from the toilet being wobbly.

A water hammer refers to the banging or knocking sound you hear in your water pipes after you turn off your faucet or when your washing machine or dishwater fills. This happens when highly pressurized water suddenly stops moving in your pipes due to a valve closing or your well pump shutting down quickly. Try adjusting the pressure setting on your water pressure tank—it should be below 50 psi (pounds per square inch). Or have a plumber install a water hammer arrestor.

While frozen pipes will eventually thaw on their own as temperatures rise, it is not safe to let this happen unattended. As the ice blockage melts, water can become trapped, building up extreme pressure within the pipe. This pressure can cause the pipe to burst, leading to severe water damage, costly leaks, and serious damage to your plumbing system. It is best to handle frozen pipes as quickly as possible. If you do not see any visible damage, you can try to slowly warm the pipes by increasing warm air circulation or applying warm towels. However, if you spot any leaks or damage, you should call a plumber immediately. The best course of action is always to take preventative measures to stop pipes from freezing.

The overflow drain and wastewater drain connect to the same main pipe to take water away from your bathtub. Your overflow drain is meant to prevent damage to your bathroom—especially the floor around your bathtub, where excess water can quickly create a mold or mildew problem.
