"Prompt response and able to do the project the same day and cleaned up everything including old branches at the end of the project. Might have taken a bit more off the branches than I’d like, but I’m no arborist and they certainly removed all the dead/non-leaf branches at a great price."

"The owners, Roger & Mike, are a father & son team who come from several generations of arborists. It is a joy to watch them at work, because caring for trees seems to be their second nature. Aside from their expertise, the thing that will make me call them again is that they were totally up front about their quote. No games. Just an honest quote. Of course, they were quick to respond to my query, and gave me a bid that same day. They were able to do the job the following day. They worked quickly and got my very old Jonathan apple tree in shape in less than an hour. They left no trace, except what I asked them to leave for my compost pile. They even stopped at a few of my other trees on the way out, trimming bits ("that was bothering me," he said.) Ha! Gotta love a guy who loves a well trimmed tree! So refreshing to work with them. What you see is what you get. No games, no pretense. No messing with your head. Just generations' worth of wisdom at work. Thanks, Mike and Roger!"

"The men that came to trim my trees did a great job. They were thorough and listened to what I wanted done. They also did a good job of cleaning up after they finished trimming the trees. I would hire them again in a heart beat."

"The estimator arrived promptly when scheduled and provided a written estimate. We thought it was a bit expensive just to prune a tree but decided to hire them because: (a) we were unhappy with a different tree service's work we had used years before, (b) their city permit was up to date (according to the COS website), (c) they had insurance and offered to provide proof, and (d) mostly because they had satisfactorily removed a 50 foot cottonwood tree a year and a half earlier (although our cedar fence sustained some very minor damage from a falling branch, the supervisor immediately stopped work and brought the damage to my husband's attention, offering to repair it).
Based on the care that was taken before, we decided to hire Horton. We were surprised when the actual "arborist" arrived - late, claiming he was a tree doctor in a different country and turned our leafy tree into a "horticultural poodle". The main branches were stripped of small sprouts while leaving plumes of leaves at the ends. I was furious when I returned home in the evening to see most of the already thin canopy cut away.
I am not an arborist or even an experienced gardener ,so I hoped this was a trimming style that would take time to appreciate. It is not. The weight at the end of the branches resulted in many of them snapping off in high wind, especially weakened by the drought conditions. After 2 years and high hopes, I still have a tragic looking tree that I will have to pay someone to try and trim again and hopefully save. So, if you have a dead or dying tree, they were good at that aspect of tree service. Would I hire them to prune another tree? Absolutely not."

"John is an incredibly knowledgeable arborist who clearly understands trees and the issues they face here in Colorado. We had two pines that he ended up removing and replacing with Junipers. He gave us options to treat or replace. John took the time to walk through both options plus provided several tree replacement options to chose from. Highly recommend his expertise and honest approach."

"This company came in a little higher priced than the other couple of bids. TOTALLY WORTH IT! The arborists know their trees, and knew exactly what ours needed. We were scheduled in a timely fashion, the crew showed up on time, and finished surprisingly fast. Everyone was professional and friendly. Our family highly recommends Save A Tree, as we are having them back in the fall to trim a fruit tree!"

Hi, I’m Louis. I take a lot of pride in keeping homes clean and taken care of. I’ve been managing and cleaning a family Airbnb for about a year, and I always go the extra mile to make sure everything is perfect for each guest. I handle everything from cleaning the entire house and restocking supplies to taking care of the hot tub, checking the mail, and even starting vehicles when needed.\n\nI’m reliable, detail-oriented, and I treat every home like it’s my own. If you’re looking for someone who really cares and makes sure things are done right, I’m the person for the job.

Arborists questions, answered by experts

The best time to cut down a tree is during its dormant season, typically in winter or early spring, after all the leaves have fallen. Removing a tree during this period is advantageous for several reasons. Frozen ground helps secure the tree stump, protects the surrounding landscape from damage, and reduces the risk of the tree falling in an unintended direction. With the leaves gone, there is less risk of the tree's foliage getting tangled with other trees. Additionally, since this is often a slower season for tree services, you may be able to hire a professional at a lower rate. This dormant period is also the best time for tree trimming.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.

In most ways, palm trees are incredibly low-maintenance. They don’t need a ton of water—which is why they’re so beloved in desert regions—and they basically prune themselves. But they do need an ample supply of sunlight and to be in soil that will allow for proper drainage so that their roots don’t become waterlogged and at risk of developing illnesses.

If the plant begins to wilt, develop spots, or change color, these could all be signs that your palm tree has a disease. But a few basic treatments, like pruning and applying fungicide, will usually be more than enough to return it to perfect health.

Generally, if your neighbor’s tree hangs over your yard, you can legally trim overhanging branches. Keep in mind that you cannot cross your property line to cut the trees, and if you damage the tree by trimming it, your neighbor could sue you. Depending on the type of tree and value, this could mean dishing out two to three times the value of the tree.

It’s worth noting that the specifics of this type of tree maintenance and the guidelines around it may vary by location. Do your research and, most importantly, consult with your neighbor.

Talking with a septic pro before planting trees near your tank is best to ensure the roots won’t interfere with your septic system. However, there is an easy way to figure out where to plant a tree—but you’ll need to know how tall it can get when it’s fully grown. For instance, if the tree can reach 50 feet, plant it at least 50 feet from your septic system.
