"One Hour Heating & Air has been servicing my HVAC system since I moved to Fort Collins four years ago. Greg Nieves is excellent. He took time to answer all questions and went out of his way to offer suggestions and make sure I understood everything.. This company is totally competent although their prices seem a bit high. However, their service is great and worth the price since I've never had to call them back with a complaint."

"We had an absolutely wonderful experience with Varsity HVAC of Loveland! From start to finish, Derek and Ricky were professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful. Our HVAC system needed a repair in the peak if this brutal Colorado summer heat, and they were able to quickly diagnose the issue and get everything back up and running. They were honest and transparent about what needed to be done, explained everything clearly, and never made us feel pressured into anything we didn’t need. It’s so refreshing to work with a company that genuinely cares about their customers and takes pride in doing quality work. The entire experience was easy and stress-free, and we couldn’t be happier with the service we received. I would absolutely recommend Derek and his team at Varsity HVAC to anyone needing services or repairs in the Northern Colorado area. We will definitely be calling them again for any future HVAC needs!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

At a minimum, an HVAC system should be serviced once per year. However, a twice-a-year service schedule—once in the spring for the cooling system and once in the fall for the heating system—is often recommended, especially for older systems, heat pumps, or in climates with extreme temperatures. Regular service, which includes inspection, cleaning, and maintenance, ensures the system runs efficiently, helps prevent costly breakdowns during peak seasons, and can extend the unit's lifespan. You can also schedule a service if you notice issues like poor performance or strange noises.

A dirty AC filter can lower the efficiency of your system, so depending on how dirty it was, you may notice a temperature difference when you clean your filter. You can try other solutions if your AC isn’t blowing as cold as it used to. You can call in a local HVAC tech to make sure everything is running correctly, fix your air seal if it’s a window unit, and clean your coils.

No, a furnace is not the same thing as an AC, or air conditioner, but these are both parts of an HVAC system. They both use air ducts to transport cool or hot air around your home to achieve a comfortable temperature set by your thermostat. An AC runs on electricity, while a furnace can use different fuel sources.

No. Evaporator coils are designed to work with specific refrigerant types, and they are rated by what kinds of refrigerant they use. It’s indicated with an “R” code. It’s important to match your evaporator coil and refrigerant or your system will not work properly. An AC technician can tell you what type of refrigerant your system needs and what evaporator coils will work with it.

If you’re trying to buy a new AC unit, there are a few crucial factors to consider. Look at the cooling capacity, the available warranty, the energy efficiency, and the type of unit. A ductless unit will cost more up front but may be a more viable option if you don’t already have ductwork. Additionally, a unit with better energy efficiency will cost less to run overall, saving you money on your monthly energy bill.
