"Peter and his crew overlaid the asphalt in a parking lot at the new location of the Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls & Toys at 830 Kipling. Peter and his crew did an amazing job. The parking lot was in very bad shape. But they removed damaged asphalt, milled it down, filled holes, dealt with Kipling traffic and overlaid the asphalt; blending it into the sidewalks and adjacent patio. They completed this efficiently and carefully. Stop by and take a look. I highly recommend 5280 SealCoating for all your paving needs!"

"Blacktop Plus did a terrific job to repave our 30-year old asphalt driveway. They were here the first day to prep and the second day to install a flawless overlay. The four references I spoke with all highly recommended Blacktop Plus and we were not disappointed. The three brothers that run the company all worked well together to finish our job while they had other jobs and issues to deal with - and each was prompt to reply and keep us informed."

Customers say: True professional

"Masonry D Services responded to my request for information almost immediately. Manny scheduled an on-site review and estimate the same day. He and his crew were here on the agreed upon date, bright and early. Manny was able to take a somewhat vague idea and translate it into a beautiful design. His personal attention to detail and high quality standards, provided us with an incredible patio and matching front porch. The team were hard-working, knowledgeable, polite, and they kept the area picked up as they worked. They did an outstanding job. I would highly recommend MDS and will use their services again."

"When I booked with GCB Landscaping Service LLC, even confirmed and was assured they would be here, they were a no show, Didn't even bother to call or take my repeated calls. I called David, explained my situation, and he came right over to service me on his day off. Now that is A+++ service!!!"

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

You’ll first need to install a base underneath your pavers for extra stability and drainage. Otherwise, the pavers can sink into the ground, and you’ll have to reinstall them. Use a base gravel layer of 4 to 6 inches for walkways and 10 to 12 inches for driveways. Compact your gravel layer every 2 to 4 inches so it’s nice and solid. After you install your gravel base, apply a 1-inch layer of sand on top.

The layer of polymeric sand under the pavers plus the polymeric sand that gets swept into the joints between your pavers holds them in place in a few ways. For one, the gritty texture of the sand helps lock the pavers together. Polymeric sand also contains bonding agents that get activated by water. Polymeric sand will take between 24 and 48 hours to fully cure, so do not walk on your paver walkway before this time.

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.

The material that’s best for your private road depends on your property, the climate in your area, and your personal preferences. Gravel is an affordable option, but some homeowners don’t like how it looks. It can be a pain to remove snow from, and it requires more ongoing maintenance than asphalt or concrete. However, while these other options require less maintenance and make snow removal a breeze, they’re more expensive and will need repairs from time to time. Ultimately, you’ll have to choose the road material that suits you and your property best.

Yes, using recycled asphalt millings is an eco-friendly alternative compared to concrete. Millings are reclaimed pieces of gravel that are recycled into aggregate that can be used on driveways, patios, walkways, basketball courts, tennis courts, and more.
