"We had Ireland's Finest do a total home touch up and they did an excellent job. We were also having a problem with peeling paint in our windows and thresholds. The home is only 18 months old so you can imagine we were very frustrated that the paint was peeling in the first place. Ireland's Finest was out for an estimate within a week, and was able to come for the project within 3 weeks. They took extra measures to be sure the peeling doesn't return. The project lasted about 3 days and they were very thorough. They were always punctual if not early. They checked in and updated throughout the process and we also saw their supervisors come by a few times for inspections. Tom and Zack are the nicest people and you can tell they take great pride and thoroughly know and understand their trade. We will have them back for future products for certain. We plan on adding a once a year touch up with them. The vendor before we had on file for the home before them was very hard to reach and their communication was poor with false promises. It was SO NICE to have Ireland's Finest answer the phones, return emails, make an effort to come for a bid in a few short days, and fit us in during a busy time. They are highly recommended."

"By far the most professional and creative company. Prompt response to my call and consultation scheduled right away. Owner, Justin, personally oversees all aspects of design and implementation. He understood our needs and his creativity and expertise in planning our design was spot on, including his suggestions for lighting and other fine touches to make our landscape design one of a kind. Crew is accomplished, respectful, prompt and cleaned up at the end of each day. Job was done on schedule, within budget and communication with Justin was constant and responsive. I HIGHLY recommend EVOlution Landscape and Design evolutionlandscapeanddesign.com"

"Very professional and friendly; they were able install two CAT6 cables from my office to my media closet on the second floor with no issues. The install required accurate precision through a very tight space and Superior Com was able to complete the job quickly and met my expectations. I would recommend their services and will be using their services in the future should I require another install."

Lighting questions, answered by experts

While wet-rated and damp-rated lighting is designed to handle contact with moisture, there’s a difference between the two. Wet-rated lighting is safety-rated to be placed in areas with direct exposure to water, including your shower. Fixtures classed as wet-rated are made with waterproof seals to protect the filament and other electrical components from water and moisture.

Damp-rated fixtures can be used in places with some moisture contact, but not direct exposure. They don’t have the same waterproof seals used in wet-rated fixtures. Damp-rated lighting can be used on your bathroom ceiling or along a wall outside of your shower.

Table lamps, floor lamps, chandeliers, desk lamps, and antique or decorative light fixtures that hold sentimental or aesthetic value are commonly repaired.

Your maintenance needs revolve around the type of foundation you choose, as well as how you furnish or decorate it. Patios require little else other than the occasional hose-down, but decks and other wooden structures will require annual power washing and sealing. You may also need to restain the wood every two to three years.

Adding a solid roof rather than building a pergola or leaving the space open will make maintenance much easier. Without a roof, you will need to spend more time sweeping, washing, and covering your furniture to protect it from UV bleaching.

The five common types of landscape lighting are up-lighting, down-lighting, spotlights, built-in lighting, and pathway lighting.

  • Up-lighting casts light upwards from the ground, mostly for aesthetic purposes.

  • Down-lighting directs light onto the ground, lighting pathways, or outdoor space.

  • Spotlights cast direct, focused lighting in any direction.

  • Built-in lighting integrates lighting into an outdoor feature.

  • Pathway lighting illuminates walkways, increasing safety.

Yes, professional landscape lighting is typically worth the investment. Installing a lighting system can improve your home’s curb appeal, safety, and security, and it can also deter burglars. It adds value to your home by creating a brightly-lit outdoor space you can use after dark and making the property more appealing to potential buyers. According to the National Association of Realtors, landscape lighting can add up to $2,500 to your home’s value, and on average, this type of home improvement has a 50% return on investment.
