"It was very easy to work with D&D Air Duct Pros. They were very responsive and made scheduling easy. They showed up on time, were very friendly, and did a great job. They provided before and after pics of our ducts and went above and beyond to make sure they were as clean as possible! I would definitely recommend this pro."

"Ourswamp cooler broke in the middle of a heat wave. Tony showed up, very professional, with gloves and a mask and practicing social distancing. He repaired our swamp cooler, luckily for much less than we originally thought. He patiently explained everything to me, including maintenance, and really took the time to ensure everything was done right. I could tell not only does he enjoy what he's doing, but he's very knowledgeable as well. The dispatchers were kind and informative when setting up my appointment and keeping me informed. They were able to get someone out within 2 hours after I called. I would highly recommend this company both for professionalism as well as knowledge about the job. They are wonderful and Tony is a solid, skilled employee who obviously loves his job and this company. You are in very good hands with Applewood."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

There are a few reasons your AC is running but not cooling your room. Thermostat issues and dust and debris, which can clog your system, are common problems. It could also be a broken component, such as a compressor, blower fan, or evaporator coils. You’ll need to call a pro to diagnose the issue.

It’s not customary to tip HVAC technicians, and most professionals won’t expect it. However, it’s a nice way of showing your appreciation for the work they do, especially if they come out in inclement weather or on a weekend or holiday to fix an emergency issue if your heat or AC goes out in extreme temperatures. A good tip would be between 10% to 20% of the total bill, depending on how above and beyond the tech goes for your repair and on the total cost of your HVAC repair or service. For something like a routine tune-up or scheduled maintenance, tips aren’t expected.

In most cases, you should hire a professional to carry out services on your HVAC system, as the components are complicated, expensive, and potentially dangerous to work with. However, there are a few things you can do on your own to keep your HVAC system in good condition, including changing your filters every three months, keeping the area around your outdoor condenser clear of debris and plant growth, making sure your or intakes aren’t blocked, and keeping an eye out for increased energy bills, strange noises, and unusual odors related to your equipment.

You should know the main components of an air conditioner: the condenser coils, evaporator coils, drip pan, AC filter, ducts, and refrigerant. Each part plays a key role in the performance and safety of your AC system. When tracking the source of AC issues or odors, it helps to know where to look. Your outdoor unit houses your condenser coils, fan, and compressor. Your indoor unit houses your evaporator coils, drain lines, and filter, and it connects to your ductwork.

Yes, it is possible. An electrical fire can break out if the compressor has inadequate ventilation. When it overheats but doesn't have a proper thermal cutout, this can cause the motor to short-circuit and catch fire. This risk is exacerbated if flammable materials, like dust and fallen leaves, are clogging the unit. The compressor overheating won't start a fire by itself, but poor maintenance and installation can increase the risk once it hits its breaking point and short-circuits.
