Carpet beetles don’t seek shelter in mattresses like bed bugs do, but there still may be sources of food, like the fabric of your sheets and blankets, that attract carpet beetles. Because these pests munch on plant-based materials, you could still find one in your bed as it’s searching for food.
Exterminators use residual insecticides in either liquid or powder form to kill scorpions. These insecticides are applied directly to visible scorpions and their common hideouts and entryways in a home to kill them and prevent future infestation. Exterminators will also use diatomaceous earth at entryways to slowly kill scorpions that enter a home later.
You’re not likely to find water bugs in your house. They may accidentally come in an open door when flying, especially since they are attracted to lights. But water bugs tend to stay stationary in bodies of water. You’re much more likely to see a roach in your home, not a water bug.
Some stores sell smoke bombs to drive animals out of spaces, but we don’t recommend you use them, especially in an attic. The smoke can be toxic to humans or pets that may accidentally inhale it. Meanwhile, critters can easily escape the smoke by temporarily leaving the attic, only to return via their usual entry points after the smoke clears.
It’s very uncommon for roaches to bite humans. Cockroaches don’t need humans for food and prefer to be elsewhere than on a living being. They have no poison or powerful pincers to cause any significant damage. However, in very bad infestations cockroaches have been known to search humans for dead skin cells, which leads to them nibbling around feet, hands, and eyelashes. They don’t cause any serious harm, but this is an easy way to spread the diseases cockroaches carry.
